The Quailwood Fund, administered by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, provides financial support for public services, conservation efforts, community improvement projects, fire and rescue facilities, public recreation, and educational scholarships in the Red Rock area of Columbia County, New York. Established by Jonathan Schor (1946–2004), the fund aims to enhance the quality of life for Red Rock residents while fostering a strong sense of community and sustainability.
The fund is managed by an advisory committee that includes representatives from the Red Rock Volunteer Fire Company, Red Rock Historical Society, Canaan Conservation Club, Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, and the Columbia Land Conservancy. The committee reviews grant applications and ensures funding aligns with the long-term needs of the community.
Grants support community projects, including capital improvements, equipment purchases, public services, and conservation initiatives. The fund prioritizes projects that strengthen community engagement, foster economic opportunities, and address unmet needs in Red Rock. Multi-year grants (up to three years) are also considered, with an annual review required for continued funding.
All Quailwood General Fund grants require a 1:1 match, ensuring that funded projects leverage additional community investment. Depending on the grant size, a portion of the match must be in cash, while the remainder can be in the form of donated goods or services.
Awards range from $500 to $10,000, with the potential for grants up to $20,000 for projects of particular significance or urgency. The application deadline is February 15, 2025.
