Green Grants
This funding opportunity supports community-driven environmental projects in Corvallis, available to individuals, organizations, and businesses that enhance local sustainability efforts.
The City of Corvallis Green Grant program is a locally focused initiative designed to support community-led efforts that align with the goals of the Corvallis Climate Action Plan (CAP). The grant is administered by the Corvallis City Council with application reviews conducted by the Climate Action Advisory Board (CAAB). For the 2026 funding cycle, a total of $5,000 is available to be distributed across eligible projects that demonstrate measurable progress toward climate mitigation or adaptation strategies. The grant program encourages inclusive participation and is structured to accommodate a range of applicants from local organizations to informal community groups with compelling project ideas. The primary objective of the Green Grant is to stimulate environmental progress at the community level by empowering residents to develop and implement projects that address climate change. Priority is given to projects that can directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance community resilience, or promote sustainability practices consistent with the CAP. Projects that demonstrate alignment with CAP strategies—such as increasing energy efficiency, promoting recycling and reuse, supporting public transportation, or managing natural resources—are especially encouraged. The grant program provides a mechanism for the community to participate meaningfully in local climate action goals through creative and accessible funding. Applicants may request typical award amounts between $500 and $1,000, although the grant program permits requests up to $5,000 depending on available funds and project merit. Awards of $600 or more require submission of a W-9 form for tax purposes, while smaller awards do not. Projects must be located within the city limits of Corvallis and must not benefit only a single individual or household. All project work must be completed by March 31, 2027, and expenses must occur between the signing of the Funding Agreement and the close of the grant term. Projects that take place on city property or right-of-way must receive additional approval from the relevant city department. The application process is straightforward and accessible. Applications will be accepted from March 1 to March 31, 2026. Submissions are made via an online form hosted by the City of Corvallis. Applicants are advised to prepare all responses in advance, as the form cannot be saved mid-process. Required information includes project description, alignment with CAP actions, expected impact, timeline, and budget. Applications are first reviewed by city staff for completeness and eligibility before being scored by CAAB. Final approval and funding decisions are made by the Corvallis City Council in May 2026. Award notifications are issued shortly thereafter, with disbursements typically made by the end of June. Scoring is based on how well the proposed project aligns with CAP actions, anticipated climate impact, scope of community benefit, and project feasibility. Additional consideration is given to projects serving historically underserved or economically disadvantaged communities. Bonus points may be awarded for projects not previously funded or those that include in-kind contributions or matching funds. A focus area for the 2026 cycle includes projects that address consumption and waste-related CAP actions. Once funding is awarded, recipients are required to sign a Funding Agreement and, if applicable, submit a completed W-9. During the grant period, recipients are responsible for tracking expenses, saving receipts, and documenting project progress. A final Project Completion Form must be submitted by March 31, 2027, along with a summary of how funds were used and photos of the completed project. These materials may be used by the City in future communications or reports. For assistance, applicants can contact [email protected] or call 541-766-6525. Additional documents such as the full overview packet and funding agreement sample are available on the City’s website.
