Grant Description

This project will provide $5 million in grants per year for three fiscal years ($15 million total) to eligible non-profit organizations to fund transformative programs in one or more CDCR institutions. The grant period begins on July 1, 2025, and ends June 30, 2028. Grants shall be awarded to fund programs that provide insight-oriented, restorative justice programs focused on increasing empathy and accountability among participants that can demonstrate that the approach has produced, or will produce, positive outcomes in correctional environments as stated in California PC ยง 5007.3. (B) Grants shall be awarded to fund programs that provide insight oriented restorative justice and offender accountability programs that can demonstrate that the approach has produced, or will produce, positive outcomes in department facilities, including, but not limited to:(i) Increasing empathy and mindfulness.(ii) Increasing resilience and reducing the impacts of stress andtrauma.(iii) Reducing violence in the form of physical aggression, verbalaggression, anger, and hostility.(iv) Successfully addressing and treating the symptoms of posttraumaticstress disorder.(v) Victim impacts and understanding.
