Virtual Living Room Grant Program

The Virtual Living Room® Grant Program is an innovative initiative that combines rural technology, resources from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and local support to improve veterans' access to advanced medical technologies. This program is specifically designed to save veterans time and costs associated with travel by enabling their connection to skilled physicians and other healthcare providers within the VA medical system through telehealth and other online resources. The process of establishing a Virtual Living Room involves assessing the community's needs, establishing a relationship with the local VA, and finding a suitable venue such as a Veterans of Foreign War lodge, American Legion, library, firehouse, church, or community center. The program originated from a collaboration between NTCA members and the VA Office of Rural Health in 2014, with the goal of addressing healthcare needs of veterans in rural areas. Supported by the Foundation for Rural Service and CoBank, it seeks to expand the network of Virtual Living Rooms across the United States, providing veterans with easy access to VA telehealth services and other online resources.
