2026 Individual Artist Fellowships

Mid Atlantic Arts administers the Individual Artist Fellowship program on behalf of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. The Fellowships support practicing New Jersey artists through an anonymous, competitive process aimed at helping them pursue their artistic goals. Artists selected for this program receive unrestricted grant awards. The program is administered by Mid Atlantic Arts under a longstanding partnership with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Mid Atlantic Arts handles application submission, the review process, applicant notification, grant administration, and final reporting. The Fellowships provide past award amounts ranging from $3,000 to $31,000. Eligibility is limited to individual artists who reside in New Jersey. Artists must submit applications in English and adhere to the program’s Rules & Instructions. For the 2026 Fellowship cycle, eligible artistic disciplines include Film/Video, Digital/Electronic, Interdisciplinary, Painting, Printmaking/Drawing/Book Arts, and Prose. Applications that do not adhere to all requirements are subject to disqualification. Applications must be submitted through the SmartSimple application system. The application portal is open now, with an Early Bird Deadline on July 2, 2025. Applicants who submit by the Early Bird Deadline may receive feedback on errors, while those who apply after July 2, 2025 will be disqualified if errors are present. The final submission deadline is July 16, 2025. Applicants are encouraged to review the program’s Rules & Instructions and the Work Sample Preparation Guide before applying. Two application assistance webinars are offered on June 12, 2025 and June 24, 2025.
