Community Grant Program
This grant provides financial support to nonprofit organizations serving Waynesboro and East Augusta County, Virginia, focusing on projects that align with community needs and Rotary International's areas of emphasis.
The Waynesboro Rotary Club, a local chapter of Rotary International, has opened the 2026 application cycle for its Community Grant Program. This grant initiative reflects the club’s ongoing commitment to supporting nonprofits that serve Waynesboro and East Augusta County, Virginia. The club operates under the broader mission of Rotary International, aligning its grantmaking with Rotary’s seven areas of focus: Peace and Conflict Resolution; Disease Prevention and Treatment; Water and Sanitation; Maternal and Child Health; Basic Education and Literacy; Environment; and Economic & Community Development. Additionally, the Waynesboro Rotary Club has established its own localized focus on projects that foster tangible community partnerships and directly improve the lives of residents. The Community Grant Program seeks applications from 501(c)(3) organizations and those operating under a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor. Applicants must demonstrate that their project or general operations support one or more of the Rotary’s focus areas or a community priority set by the Waynesboro Rotary Club Board of Directors. Applications from individuals, politically affiliated entities, and religious organizations with sectarian requirements will not be considered. Projects that fall under routine government services, unless there is a declared emergency preventing public agencies from fulfilling those needs, are also excluded. Grant awards in recent years have ranged from $250 to $10,000, with an average of approximately $1,981 per recipient. In 2025, for the club’s centennial year, over $50,000 in total grant funding was awarded to 20 organizations. This level of funding demonstrates both the club’s resource capacity and its strategic intent to make a meaningful local impact through multiple, smaller grants that reach a variety of causes. Funding can be requested for general operating purposes or for specific programs or capital expenditures. If the full requested amount is not awarded, applicants are expected to outline how their organization would adapt to partial funding. The grant application process opens on December 1, 2025, and closes on February 2, 2026. Selected grantees will be notified in early May 2026, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for early June 2026. Applications must be downloaded from the Waynesboro Rotary Club’s website and submitted via email, along with financial documentation, including the current and previous year’s operating budgets. The application also requires responses about the organization’s mission, alignment with Rotary’s focus areas, activities, demographics served, impact measurement methods, and references. Evaluation of submitted applications is conducted by the Community Partnerships Committee, which seeks to understand both the mission and measurable impact of applicant organizations. Emphasis is placed on alignment with Rotary priorities and on clear benefit to the Waynesboro community. Questions can be directed to any Waynesboro Rotarian or via email to [email protected]. The grant cycle is annual, and this timeline is expected to recur in future years unless otherwise noted.
