Suicide Prevention Resource Center
This funding opportunity provides financial support to organizations and individuals focused on suicide prevention, enabling them to implement best practices and enhance resources for high-risk populations across the nation.
The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) Funding Opportunity Number SM-25-012, issued by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), supports a national initiative to prevent suicide by enhancing the capabilities of organizations and individuals engaged in suicide prevention. SAMHSA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the SPRC will serve as a central technical assistance, training, and resource hub for suicide prevention efforts nationwide. This funding opportunity is made available under Section 520C of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 290bb-34), as amended. The primary purpose of the SPRC is to build national capacity for suicide prevention. The awardee will be responsible for supporting states, territories, Tribes, educational institutions, nonprofits, and other eligible organizations in applying best practices for suicide prevention. The grantee will operate a national center that provides technical assistance, training, and dissemination of resources related to suicide prevention, with a focus on high-risk populations and systems such as criminal justice and foster care. Applicants must implement a wide array of required activities. These include forming a Technical Expert Panel (TEP) to guide project direction, conducting a comprehensive needs assessment, and establishing a dynamic outreach and marketing plan. Grantees will also be required to maintain a Best Practices Registry, create early intervention strategies, respond to technical assistance requests, and produce training and educational materials covering topics such as upstream suicide prevention and the intersection of healthcare and suicide. A notable element of the grant is the focus on the Zero Suicide model and associated clinical practices, including follow-up care post-crisis and effective support systems. Funding for this program is structured as a cooperative agreement with significant involvement from SAMHSA throughout the project lifecycle. One award of up to $10,207,289 annually is anticipated, with a project period of up to five years. The total available funding is $10,207,289 per year. The project director and lead evaluator must both be full-time equivalents (FTEs) at 100% level of effort. Continuation awards are subject to availability of funds, satisfactory progress, timely data submission, and compliance with award terms. There is no cost-sharing or matching requirement for this grant. Eligible applicants include domestic public and private nonprofit entities, such as states, political subdivisions, Tribes and tribal organizations, health programs funded by Indian Health Service, and higher education institutions. Applicants must provide documentation of nonprofit status if applicable. All applications must align with current Executive Orders and federal regulations. The application process requires detailed documentation, including a one-page abstract, 12-page narrative, budget forms, and several attachments. Required attachments include letters of commitment from partners, biographical sketches, a project timeline, and a confidentiality plan. The application deadline is July 22, 2025, with awards expected by September 29, 2025, and project start date of September 30, 2025. Applicants must be registered with SAM.gov, Grants.gov, and eRA Commons. Applications must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. ET unless an exemption is granted. The review process includes initial eligibility screening, peer review, and risk assessment under 45 CFR 75.205. SAMHSA's Center for Mental Health Services National Advisory Council also plays a role in final award decisions. For technical assistance, eligibility questions may be directed to Brandon J.
