Sherwood Trust’s Core Competitive Grants

The Sherwood Trust provides competitive grants to nonprofit organizations and community initiatives that align with its mission of fostering belonging and creating a thriving region in the Walla Walla Valley, encompassing Walla Walla and Columbia counties in Washington and Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Grants are awarded in three categories: capacity grants, community grants, and capital grants. Eligible projects must address community needs, align with Sherwood Trust’s values, and demonstrate organizational excellence and sustainability. The grant process includes three steps: submission of a Letter of Interest (LOI), invitation to submit a full application, and an evaluation that may include site visits. Applicants are encouraged to discuss proposals with Sherwood Trust before submitting their LOI. Organizations may only receive Core Grant funding once every three years. Grants prioritize organizations that leverage other funding sources and do not rely solely on Sherwood Trust for project support. The application cycle for 2025 begins with the LOI deadline on February 5, 2025, followed by full applications (if invited) due by March 5, 2025. Site visits occur in April, and final funding decisions are announced in June. Applicants must submit proposals through the online grant portal, including project descriptions, budgets, organizational overviews, and financial details.
