Neighborhood Parks Enhancement Program​

The Neighborhood Parks Enhancement Program is a local grant initiative managed by the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. This program is part of the broader General Obligation (GO) Bond Program, which aims to improve infrastructure and public amenities across the city. With $1.5 million allocated specifically for park-related capital improvements, the initiative ensures that each of the city’s council districts benefits from targeted investment in its neighborhood parks. The purpose of this program is to support minor capital improvement projects that enhance the quality and functionality of parks within the city. Eligible projects include infrastructure upgrades or renovations that improve community spaces without increasing ongoing maintenance or operational costs for the department. Examples of qualifying projects include the installation of exercise equipment, resurfacing of basketball or volleyball courts, the addition of concrete game tables, or constructing ramadas and four-square courts. To apply, neighborhood organizations must be registered with the City’s Neighborhood Services Department. Groups not already registered can do so online via the department's website. Only one project may be submitted per application, and it must be located within a City of Phoenix park. Projects must meet current infrastructure requirements such as access to water lines or electricity, and all improvements must be completed by city-approved contractors in accordance with established city standards. The application period runs from September 27 to December 2, 2024. Applications must be submitted online through a portal available on the Parks and Recreation Department's website. Approved projects will be announced in early 2025, and implementation will occur within the GO Bond Program’s active period from 2024 through 2029. Applicants can expect the Parks and Recreation Department to establish individualized timelines for each selected project. The department is also available to assist with the registration process for neighborhood organizations and to provide guidance on submitting strong applications. This grant represents an opportunity for communities to directly shape and enhance their public spaces by participating in locally-driven park development projects.
