Grant Description

The Goodwin Family Memorial Trust is a philanthropic foundation established by Mabel Frankie Goodwin, a resident of Los Angeles, California. Ms. Goodwin, who passed away on April 19, 1978, created the trust to provide financial support for charitable organizations that serve needy males under the age of 21. The trust is managed by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., through its Trust Philanthropic Services division. The primary mission of the trust is to support the moral, physical, and intellectual development of disadvantaged boys. Grants are awarded to charitable organizations that provide care, support, maintenance, education, and other essential services to males under 21 residing in California. While there are no strict geographic limitations, the trust predominantly funds organizations operating within California. Eligible applicants must be qualified public charities under the Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). Organizations may apply for grants multiple times throughout the year, but if an organization receives four consecutive grants, it must wait one year before reapplying. Additionally, grantees may only submit one application per grant cycle if they have already received funding within that year. The trust awards between 35 and 60 grants annually, with individual grant amounts typically ranging from $10,000 to $35,000. Total annual funding distributed by the trust generally falls between $500,000 and $600,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with four deadlines per year: March 30, June 30, September 30, and December 31. Grant decisions are communicated by May, August, November, and February, respectively, following each application deadline. Recipients may be required to submit periodic progress and final reports to ensure compliance with funding guidelines. Applications are submitted online through the Wells Fargo Trust Philanthropic Services portal. Applicants will receive an automated confirmation email upon submission. Additional questions regarding the application process can be directed to Wells Fargo’s Trust Philanthropic Services division. For individuals seeking educational scholarships, the trust directs applicants to review opportunities available at csascholars.org.
