T.H.R.I.V.E Grant
This grant provides up to $5,000 in seed funding for Vanderbilt students and registered student organizations to develop innovative projects that promote community belonging, collaboration, and inclusivity on campus.
The T.H.R.I.V.E. Grant at Vanderbilt University offers seed funding of up to $5,000 to support student-led initiatives that foster belonging, collaboration, and innovation within the university community. Administered by Student Affairs Belonging and Communities, the grant emphasizes the development of ideas that strengthen community ties, promote inclusive dialogue, and generate sustainable impact aligned with the university’s mission and values. The grant invites applications from current Vanderbilt students and registered student organizations in good standing. Each project must include at least two collaborators, with one serving as the primary student applicant. While additional collaborators such as faculty, staff, or external partners may be involved, the proposal must be led and submitted by a student. Projects being submitted on behalf of a registered student organization or involving departmental collaboration require letters of support from relevant advisors or unit leaders. Eligible project types span a broad range of community-centered efforts, including events that build a sense of belonging, research or creative work advancing equity and access, initiatives that foster cross-disciplinary or inter-community collaboration, and programs that support wellness, mentorship, or dialogue across difference. Successful proposals are expected to demonstrate innovation, feasibility, community impact, and alignment with the values of Student Affairs Belonging and Communities. Funding may be used for direct programmatic expenses such as materials, space rentals, speaker stipends, communication and marketing efforts, research costs, or modest travel needs. Certain expenses, including salaries, tuition, political activities, or gifts over $70 in value, are ineligible. All expenditures must adhere to university financial procedures, and some costs may require additional approval. Applications are currently being accepted for the Spring 2026 cycle, with a submission deadline of January 9, 2026. Applicants must submit a 2–3 page proposal outlining the project’s goals, community relevance, and budget. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee that considers innovation, community engagement, collaborative value, and the clarity of the budget. Award recipients are required to complete a final report detailing the project’s outcomes and its impact on community belonging. In addition, grantees must maintain detailed expense records and submit documentation of project activities using tools provided by the review committee. No prior grant-writing experience is necessary, making the T.H.R.I.V.E. Grant an accessible opportunity for students aiming to create meaningful change on campus.
