Grant Description

The Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants, administered by NYFA, provide one-time financial assistance of up to $5,000 to generative artists facing recent unexpected medical, dental, or mental health emergencies. Eligible disciplines include visual arts, film/video/electronic/digital arts, and choreography. Applicants must demonstrate a financial need, with an average adjusted gross income not exceeding $75,000 ($150,000 for joint filers) over the last two tax years. Key criteria include that applicants must be generative artists—those creating their own independent work with recent and ongoing public engagement. The grants are not intended to cover lost wages, living expenses, or medical care for individuals other than the artist. Applications are open for several upcoming cycles: Cycle 28: For emergencies occurring June 1, 2024, and later. Applications open December 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET and close January 14, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET, with notifications by February 28, 2025. Cycle 29: For emergencies occurring August 1, 2024, and later. Applications open February 11, 2025, and close March 11, 2025, with notifications by April 25, 2025. Cycle 30: For emergencies occurring October 1, 2024, and later. Applications open April 15, 2025, and close May 14, 2025, with notifications by June 27, 2025. A recorded information session is available for guidance on the program, including application instructions and a Q&A from a live session. Applicants should note that demand for this grant is high, with limited funding of approximately $150,000 distributed per cycle. Submission does not guarantee an award. For additional emergency resources, artists can refer to NYFA’s Emergency Grants page.
