The Cameco Fund for Mental Health
This funding opportunity provides financial support to organizations in Northumberland County and the Blind River area for innovative mental health programs that enhance community well-being and access to resources.
The Cameco Fund for Mental Health, administered through the Saskatoon Community Foundation, provides annual funding to support mental health programs and initiatives in local communities across Ontario. For the 2025 grant cycle, the program offers two localized funding streams: one for Northumberland County and another for the Blind River area. This fund was established to enhance access to mental health resources, strengthen community resilience, and support organizations that address mental health challenges through innovative, inclusive, and community-driven approaches. Since its inception in 2019, the fund has distributed over $450,000 to more than 56 organizations. The Northumberland County stream for 2025 will disburse a total of $49,000, with individual grants capped at $10,000. Funds are raised through community events such as Cameco’s annual charity golf tournament, as well as donations and employee contributions. The Blind River stream, initiated in 2022, will distribute $25,000 in 2025, with a maximum individual award of $7,500. Together, these regional programs reflect Cameco’s commitment to supporting the well-being of residents and promoting mental health awareness at the local level. The fund prioritizes projects that promote, protect, or improve mental health through accessible and community-based services. Eligible applicants include registered charities, qualified donees, nonprofit organizations, and organized community groups operating within the designated geographic areas. For applicants without a charitable registration number, the online system allows a placeholder number (12-3456789) to be used for account creation. All applications must be submitted through the Saskatoon Community Foundation’s online portal, fully completed, and received before the deadline of October 31, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The application window opens October 1, 2025, and successful recipients will be announced in December 2025. Projects must clearly demonstrate direct community benefit within the respective eligible regions. Applications will be evaluated by a review panel consisting of local mental health professionals and representatives from Cameco. The evaluation process emphasizes community impact, project sustainability, and the capacity of the applicant organization to deliver meaningful outcomes. The program does not require matching funds, and all approved funding must be used solely for mental health-related activities. Awards are expected to be announced in December 2025, with funds disbursed shortly thereafter to support the implementation of selected initiatives. Applicants seeking guidance during the submission process may contact Krys Hertzke, Grants Coordinator, or Don Ewles, Grants Manager, at the Saskatoon Community Foundation. The foundation operates from its main office at 101–308 Fourth Avenue North, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7K 2L7, and can be reached by phone at (306) 665-1767. Cameco’s partnership with the Saskatoon Community Foundation underscores its dedication to promoting strong, healthy communities and fostering mental health support networks across Ontario.
