The Eversource Energy Foundation offers charitable grants and sponsorships to nonprofit organizations that serve communities within its electric and natural gas service territories across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. As the philanthropic arm of Eversource Energy, New England’s largest energy delivery company, the Foundation aligns its giving with initiatives that create broad, meaningful, and sustainable change. In 2024 alone, the Foundation contributed $7 million to nonprofit organizations across the region.
The primary aim of this funding opportunity is to support programs and events that align with at least one of the Foundation’s five core focus areas: Community Wellness/Basic Needs, Education, Clean Energy and Environmental Stewardship, Community Awareness and Engagement, and Community, Economic and Workforce Development. Awards typically range between $1,000 and $10,000 and are not automatically renewable, requiring recipients to reapply each calendar year.
Eligible applicants must be U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations located within Eversource’s service areas. Organizations must also demonstrate that their funding requests align with one or more of the Foundation’s core focus areas. Certain activities and entities are ineligible for funding, including fraternal and political organizations, capital projects, private foundations, personnel-related expenses, debt reduction, advertising, energy efficiency upgrades, sports leagues, and United Way partners (with exceptions for signature events). The Foundation will not knowingly support organizations that engage in discriminatory practices.
The application window closes in mid-October each year, and only one donation per organization is allowed annually. Applications for the 2025 cycle are now closed; the next application window will open in March 2026. Prospective applicants are advised to submit requests at least 90 days before the intended event or program start date.
For further inquiries about the grant application process, organizations are encouraged to contact the Foundation at Giving@eversource.com or reach out to state-specific community relations representatives. Despite the competitive nature of this funding, Eversource maintains a strong commitment to fostering inclusive community support through both direct grants and employee giving programs.
