Wildfire Risk Reduction Program
This funding opportunity provides financial support to Nevada-based organizations for projects that reduce wildfire risks and enhance community safety through education and mitigation efforts.
The Wildfire Risk Reduction Program (WRRP) is a collaborative initiative between the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association (NFCA) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) โ Nevada, designed to enhance community safety through strategic wildfire mitigation. The program reflects the shared commitment of NFCA and BLM to address wildfire threats across jurisdictional boundaries and protect Nevadaโs diverse communities, ecosystems, public lands, and infrastructure. Through this grant opportunity, the WRRP offers targeted financial support for locally driven projects that reduce wildfire risks, improve fire safety education, and promote cross-agency coordination in fire-prone regions. The WRRP provides two tiers of funding to eligible Nevada-based organizations. Grants of up to $75,000 are available for hazardous fuels reduction projects, particularly those conducted in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), where homes and human development intermingle with vegetative fuels. These projects may include cutting back overgrown vegetation or implementing strategic land treatments to reduce the intensity and spread of wildfires. A second funding tier, offering up to $10,000, supports education and outreach activities such as developing public information materials, conducting home evaluations, organizing community events, or delivering resident training focused on wildfire preparedness and prevention. Eligibility for the WRRP is limited to Nevada entities actively working to mitigate wildfire risk in local communities. This includes county and municipal governments, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, Fire Protection Districts, Soil & Water Conservation Districts, and Native American Tribes. Applicants must hold an active registration in the federal SAM.gov system and provide a valid Unique Entity ID (UEI) as part of the application. All proposals must demonstrate a clear connection to wildfire risk reduction and serve communities identified as vulnerable to wildfire hazards. The application process for the 2026 WRRP funding cycle will officially open in January 2026. All application materials must be submitted by March 2026. Applicants are encouraged to review the WRRP Program Information and Terms and Conditions documents to understand program requirements and evaluation criteria. Submissions should include the completed WRRP Application and any required supporting documentation. Applications may be sent via email to [email protected] or mailed to the NFCA Wildfire Risk Reduction Program office in Carson City, Nevada. To avoid processing delays, all applicants must ensure their SAM.gov registration is active prior to submission. Successful applicants will be notified of award decisions in April 2026. The performance period for funded projects will run from May 2026 through June 2027. This cycle-based structure supports project planning and implementation over a designated timeframe, allowing for measurable outcomes in both education and hazard mitigation. Although the WRRP operates on a recurring basis, applicants are advised to monitor announcements from NFCA and BLM Nevada for updates on future cycles. For questions regarding eligibility, application requirements, or submission logistics, applicants may contact Kelli Baratti, Executive Director of NFCA, by email at [email protected] or by phone at (775) 720-9874. Comprehensive guidance is also available via the WRRP Application Checklist. The WRRP represents a strategic opportunity for Nevada communities to secure funding for proactive wildfire risk reduction efforts that can yield lasting safety and resilience benefits.
