Norm Winn Memorial Conservation Grant
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in the Pacific Northwest for innovative projects focused on environmental conservation, preservation, and restoration efforts.
The Norm Winn Memorial Conservation Grant is administered by the Keta Legacy Foundation, a Washington-based nonprofit with a long-standing commitment to environmental preservation. Founded in 1968, the foundation supports efforts that protect and restore the natural world, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. This grant honors Norm Winn’s legacy by funding projects that engage in meaningful conservation, preservation, and restoration activities across specific states in the region. This grant opportunity is intended for organizations undertaking initiatives in one or more of three focus areas: conservation, which entails reducing the use of finite natural resources and minimizing ecological impacts; preservation, aimed at protecting species and ecosystems unique to the region; and restoration, focused on reestablishing healthy ecosystem functions. The grant supports innovative and original projects that demonstrate environmental significance and feasibility. Projects must be conducted within the geographic limits of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and Eastern Washington. Grants are awarded on a competitive basis, with a maximum request of up to $25,000 per project. Funding is not available for for-profit ventures, general operational costs, political activities, membership dues, or projects that could harm the environment. Additionally, repeated studies or projects lacking defined start and end dates are not eligible. Applications must originate from eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose missions align with the grant's core objectives. To apply, organizations must complete the Norm Winn Grant Application Form and submit a 4-page narrative outlining the mission of the organization, the nature and importance of the proposed project, expected outcomes, and project leadership with qualifications. Applicants must also include a detailed project budget, a cash flow plan, the organization’s tax-exempt status documentation, financial statements, and letters of commitment from any partner organizations. Applications are judged based on innovation, feasibility, budget realism, applicant capacity, and environmental or community significance. The 2025 application window opens on June 2 and closes on October 31. Awards are typically announced approximately 12 weeks after the submission deadline. Grant recipients are expected to provide regular progress updates, submit a final report, and credit the Keta Legacy Foundation in any related materials. Any unused funds must be returned if the project is canceled for any reason.
