Literacy Enrichment Grant
This funding opportunity supports community organizations and schools in New Hampshire and Vermont to create engaging literacy projects that inspire children and their families to develop a love for reading and writing.
The Literacy Enrichment Grant is administered by the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF), an organization dedicated to promoting literacy among children in underserved communities across Vermont and New Hampshire. This grant aims to infuse creativity and excitement into literacy efforts by funding innovative, experiential learning opportunities that engage young readers and their families. With a focus on community-centered literacy initiatives, CLiF seeks to foster a love for reading and writing among children aged 0 to 12 through meaningful and accessible programs. Designed as a flexible funding opportunity, the Literacy Enrichment Grant offers up to $1,000 per recipient to support a variety of project-based literacy activities. The grant encourages programs to bring literacy to life through hands-on experiences, events, and collaborations. Allowable uses of funds include, but are not limited to, multicultural performances that tie into curriculum, storytelling or drama residencies, field trips, family literacy events, publishing costs, and literacy-themed celebrations or parades. CLiF particularly welcomes creative proposals that integrate literacy into larger educational or community efforts. To be eligible, applicants must be based in Vermont or New Hampshire and serve children from birth to age 12, with at least 35% of the children qualifying for free or reduced lunch, program tuition assistance, or scholarships. Programs must also reach at least 30 participating children. Eligible entities include community-based organizations, libraries, schools, early education centers, and youth-serving nonprofits. A strong application will clearly outline how the proposed activities connect directly with literacy and demonstrate readiness for collaboration with CLiF staff in planning and implementation. The application period for the Spring 2026 cycle opens on January 1, 2026, and closes on March 1, 2026. All funded projects must be completed by June 1, 2026, with no exceptions. In addition, grantees are required to submit a final report and a detailed budget summary within 30 days following the project’s conclusion. This timeline ensures that the grant remains focused and impact-driven while providing applicants with a structured window for implementation. Grant recipients are selected based on a variety of criteria, including demonstrated community need, the creativity and enthusiasm behind the proposed project, clarity in how the project supports children’s literacy development, and geographic distribution. CLiF also considers previous grant history in its decision-making process. The selection emphasizes partnerships that prioritize equity, collaboration, and a long-term vision for engaging youth in literacy. Applicants with questions or seeking support during the application process are encouraged to reach out to Cassie Willner, Program Manager at CLiF, via email at [email protected]. The grant program supports a recurring annual cycle, and organizations not selected in one round are welcome to apply in future cycles. CLiF’s Literacy Enrichment Grant continues to serve as a catalyst for innovative literacy engagement across New Hampshire and Vermont’s youth-serving organizations.
