The Colorado Health Foundation’s Advocacy Rapid Response Funding program is designed to support short-term, time-sensitive advocacy efforts that seek to influence public policy and advance health equity in Colorado. Intended for projects lasting three to nine months, this funding opportunity is available to eligible organizations engaged in local, state, or federal advocacy initiatives that address current and critical policy issues impacting Colorado communities. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and funding decisions are typically made within 45 days of submission.
Funding amounts generally range from $15,000 to $75,000. Projects must focus on one or more of the Foundation’s seven core issue areas: equitable access to primary care; physical activity for children; early childhood social-emotional development; youth mental health resources; adult recovery resources; access to healthy food; and access to affordable, high-quality housing. Other advocacy efforts related to health equity may be considered with prior approval from Foundation staff. Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult a program officer before applying.
To be considered, applications must clearly demonstrate urgency, alignment with Foundation priorities, and a strong focus on advocacy rather than direct services. Successful proposals will reflect community support, particularly from those most affected by the targeted policy issue, and must show how the applicant organization is appropriately positioned to conduct the proposed advocacy work.
Eligible activities include grassroots organizing, coalition building, policymaker education, media advocacy, legal analysis, and regulatory advocacy. The Foundation prohibits use of funds for bridge funding, long-term or previously planned projects, or partisan political activities. Only advocacy activities permissible for 501(c)(3) organizations are allowed.
Applications are accepted online, and applicants must register in the Foundation’s grants portal in advance. All submissions undergo internal review and may be evaluated with assistance from third-party experts under confidentiality agreements. Questions may be directed to the Foundation via email or phone.
