Grant Description

The Educational & Workforce Readiness Grant Program is offered by the Hobart Redevelopment Commission (RDC) of the City of Hobart, Indiana. This local funding initiative supports educational, career, and technical education (CTE) programs that align with the city’s broader goals for redevelopment and economic development. The program is legislated under Indiana Code 36-7-25-7 and is focused on initiatives that prepare students for high-demand careers and post-secondary opportunities. The grants are intended to benefit a majority of Hobart residents, particularly students preparing to compete in a global economy. The grant program has an available pool of $30,000 for the 2026 cycle. The RDC reserves the right to award one or multiple grants—or none at all—depending on the quality of applications received. Importantly, the grant operates on a reimbursement basis, meaning awardees must first incur and document 100% of the expenses before seeking payment. A fully executed agreement between the applicant and the RDC is required before any reimbursable expenses are undertaken. Eligible uses of the funds include program expenses that support technical skills development, essential soft skills training, and academic competencies geared toward high-growth or in-demand sectors in Hobart or Lake County. Programs may also incorporate digital platforms, virtual reality, or augmented reality tools, provided these are accessible to all participants. Awardees are required to submit quarterly metrics on outcomes such as certification attainment and post-secondary commitments. A final report including photos and outcome summaries is due with the last reimbursement request. The application process requires submission of five hard copies and one electronic copy by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2025. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed. The evaluation process includes a review by the RDC’s Grant Committee and final approval by the full Commission. Notifications of awards will be issued by January 10, 2026. Grant recipients must comply with nondiscrimination policies and state-mandated E-Verify requirements for awards over $1,000. Contact for the program is Kate McGill, Community Development Coordinator, reachable at [email protected] or 219-942-5517. Applications must be submitted to her office at 414 Main Street, Hobart, IN 46342. All information submitted becomes public record, and any publicity must credit the Hobart Redevelopment Commission.
