Grant Description

The Acker Trust Grant, administered by the City of Prescott Civic Enhancement Committee, is designed to support nonprofit organizations that align with the charitable intent of J.S. Acker, specifically those advancing music and parks initiatives for children in Prescott, Arizona. This program reflects the legacy and directives outlined in a 1959 court decree settling Mr. Acker's estate. The Civic Enhancement Committee oversees the review and distribution of funds for this purpose each fiscal year. For Fiscal Year 2027, which spans July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the grant program continues its mission to enrich the community by funding local nonprofit initiatives aligned with the trust’s charitable goals. To qualify for the Acker Trust Grant, applicants must be incorporated in the State of Arizona and hold a current 501(c)(3) nonprofit designation from the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS nonprofit status must be active (not pending) at the time of submission. All eligible applicants are required to complete a specific application form and include supporting documentation as outlined in the grant guidelines. This documentation includes a project-specific budget using the prescribed form and a one-page balance sheet. For funding requests exceeding $5,000, applicants must also provide the first two pages of their most recent IRS Form 990. If the applicant is exempt from filing a full 990, an IRS 990-N E-filing receipt or appropriate documentation must be included. Grant requests may be funded in full or in part, at the discretion of the Committee. The availability of non-Acker funds and a history of successful programming are considered favorably during the evaluation process. Incomplete applications or submissions missing required documents will not be considered. Additionally, it is mandatory for applicants to attend a Civic Enhancement Committee meeting during which applications are reviewed, and deliver a five-minute oral presentation. Organizations not represented at the meeting will be disqualified from consideration. It is the responsibility of each applicant to confirm the date and time of this presentation with the City Clerk's Office. The City of Prescott requires all funded organizations to submit an evaluation and financial report within 60 days of project completion. Failure to comply with this reporting requirement may result in ineligibility for future funding. Additionally, any materials used to promote or describe the funded project must clearly acknowledge support from the City of Prescott's Acker Trust. This includes posters, flyers, programs, and news media. If funds are not utilized as proposed in the application, the unspent funds must be returned to the Civic Enhancement Committee within 60 days. Applications for Fiscal Year 2027 are due no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, April 3, 2026. All application materials must be complete and submitted by this deadline. Questions may be directed to the City Clerk’s Office at 928-777-1437. This program reflects the City's commitment to supporting local organizations that serve Prescott's children through enriching, community-based activities focused on music and parks. The City ensures that all awards are aligned with the intent of J.S. Acker’s legacy and the legal framework governing the trust.
