Grant Description

The Toledo Neighborhoods Foundation was established to improve the quality of life for residents within the city of Toledo, Ohio. The Foundation directs its focus toward community-based projects with impact in Toledo neighborhoods, particularly those surrounding the Overland site. These include Old West End, Englewood, Ottawa, Five Points/Library Village, Lagrange, Toledo Olde Towne, and Warren Sherman. Its funding supports initiatives in land reuse, neighborhood improvement, job preparation, safety, and youth engagement. Grants of up to $25,000 are available to eligible nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations under IRS Section 501(c)(3). The Foundation prioritizes proposals that engage with local resident groups and demonstrate strong partnerships among organizations. It encourages projects that coordinate efforts with other service providers in the area, contribute to local community plans, and propose thoughtful financial sustainability strategies. Proposals that generate matching funds or propose the leveraging of additional resources are considered especially competitive. This grant program accepts applications annually. For the current cycle, proposals are due by October 24, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Applications must be submitted through the Greater Toledo Community Foundation’s online application portal. Late submissions will not be considered. Each proposal must include a detailed description of project goals and needs, target population, implementation plan with responsible personnel, evaluation methods, sustainability strategy, and a complete project budget. Required attachments include a board list, IRS determination letter, organizational background, financial statements, and the current year’s operating budget. Audited financials prepared within the last 18 months are preferred, but unaudited statements may be submitted if an audit is not available. All grant applications are reviewed by the Foundation’s staff and Board of Trustees. Funding decisions are typically made within two to three months of the deadline, and applicants are notified in writing within a week after decisions are finalized. Project costs incurred prior to formal award notification are not eligible for funding. For more information, applicants may contact Patrick Johnston, Vice President of Community Investments at the Greater Toledo Community Foundation.
