The Macon Area Habitat for Humanity Sustainability Fund was established to support quality of life initiatives in neighborhoods targeted by the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity (MAHFH). Founded in 1986, MAHFH has focused its efforts on building homes and communities in Bibb and Jones counties, Georgia. Over the years, the organization has helped more than 100 working families and adopted a Neighborhood Revitalization approach that goes beyond constructing homes to also address community development through partnerships and resident empowerment.
This fund was created with generous support from The Peyton Anderson Foundation and is managed by the Community Foundation of Central Georgia (CFCG). Initially focused on the Lynmore Estates neighborhood, where MAHFH has made significant strides in boosting homeownership and community engagement, the fund has since expanded to include Pleasant Hill and will serve all future Habitat for Humanity focus neighborhoods. The initiative is part of a broader effort to sustain and improve living conditions beyond housing by fostering community-led projects that improve neighborhood quality of life.
The Sustainability Fund prioritizes grant applications for projects that offer community benefit and are accessible to all residents within MAHFH's focus neighborhoods. Funded initiatives must show potential for sustainable impact, especially for recurring activities, and should not be limited to one-time events unless clearly justified. Proposed projects must be neighborhood-based and directly serve either Lynmore Estates or Pleasant Hill, as no funding will be considered for activities outside these zones.
To apply, applicants must be a neighborhood group or organization working in one of the designated focus neighborhoods. Access to the application system requires prior registration through the online web portal. New users must account for at least one business day for their registration to be processed before they can access the application. Submissions must include a one-page budget summary uploaded as a PDF.
The fund has four grant cycles annually, with deadlines at noon on March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31. The average grant amount is typically under $500. After the deadline, CFCG staff conducts a due diligence review that may involve contacting applicants for additional information. Award notifications are generally issued within two months after the application period closes.
Grantees are required to submit a final report, including a detailed accounting of expenditures, within 60 days of using the grant funds or within one year of the application deadline, whichever comes first. This report must be submitted before reapplying for additional funding. The fund is intended as a long-term resource for sustaining community-driven improvements in neighborhoods supported by Macon Area Habitat for Humanity.
