Grant Description

The California Battery Pilot Manufacturing Line (GFO-24-304) grant opportunity is aimed at funding the establishment of a pilot battery manufacturing facility in California. Administered by the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) Energy Research and Development Division, under the Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) Program, this initiative seeks to advance lithium-ion battery manufacturing and testing to support the state’s clean energy transition. The funded facility will be designed to produce and test a variety of emerging lithium-ion-based battery technologies, fostering innovation in energy storage, grid resilience, and clean transportation. This pilot line is expected to enhance California’s battery supply chain, accelerate the commercialization of advanced battery designs, and contribute to the state’s carbon neutrality and renewable energy goals. Eligible applicants include research institutions, technology developers, battery manufacturers, and other organizations with expertise in battery production and energy storage innovation. The proposal must demonstrate technical feasibility, scalability, and a pathway to commercialization for the advanced battery technologies developed at the pilot facility. The application process requires submission through the Energy Commission Agreement Management System (ECAMS) portal. Applicants must register for a user account to apply. The submission deadline is April 4, 2025, at 11:59 PM PST, with a question submission deadline of February 14, 2025, at 5:00 PM PST. Applicants should review the User Registration Instructions and follow the outlined steps for ECAMS submission. Proposals will be evaluated based on technical merit, potential impact on California’s clean energy economy, feasibility of implementation, and alignment with the state’s long-term energy storage objectives. Projects demonstrating strong partnerships, innovative battery technology solutions, and pathways to large-scale manufacturing will be prioritized. By investing in pilot battery manufacturing infrastructure, this grant supports California’s energy security, economic competitiveness, and leadership in clean energy technologies.
