The Grant W. Brissman and Virginia M. Brissman Foundation Grant is a private philanthropic initiative administered by the Quad Cities Community Foundation. Established in 2011 through the estates of Grant and Virginia Brissman, the foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life in the Village of Milan, Illinois. It funds programs supporting youth development, community development, cultural activities, and efforts to alleviate the suffering of underprivileged individuals.
Grant Brissman was a long-standing local business owner and community figure in Milan, and Virginia Brissman worked for Illinois Bell for four decades. The foundation reflects their shared commitment to community enhancement and education. The foundation awards competitive grants of up to $10,000 per application, with grant decisions made by a board of trustees.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations with valid 501(c)(3) status and qualified governmental agencies physically located in and serving the Village of Milan. Organizations outside Milan may apply only if their projects demonstrate clear and direct benefits to Milan residents. The foundation explicitly excludes funding for annual fundraising campaigns, endowment contributions, deficit financing, grants to individuals, and projects for sectarian purposes.
The 2025 grant cycle opens on August 15 and closes on October 5. Applications must be submitted through the Quad Cities Community Foundation’s online grant portal. New applicants must create an account. Notifications of grant decisions will be sent in late November. For assistance, organizations may contact Steve Gottcent via phone or email.
Projects should directly tie into the foundation's mission. Be specific in demonstrating the benefit to Milan. Organizations outside the village should provide strong evidence of local impact.
