King Foundation Community Grants

The King Foundation offers Community Grants to support nonprofit organizations operating in Arkansas, North Texas, and West Texas. The Foundation prioritizes strategic investments in communities, aiming to foster lasting improvements in quality of life through targeted program areas. Community Grants are one of two types awarded annually, the other being Initiative Grants. The Foundation considers faith-based groups only when their social services are publicly accessible and non-sectarian in practice. Grants cannot be used for general operations, fundraising events, endowments, political activities, or debt retirement. Each region has unique focus areas; for instance, North Texas supports youth aging out of foster care, while West Texas emphasizes nonprofit capacity-building. Applicants must submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) through the Foundation’s online portal during one of two annual cycles—spring or fall. In the spring 2025 cycle, the LOI window is from November 1 to December 16, 2024, with full proposals invited by February 3, 2025. For fall 2025, the LOI window is May 1 to June 16, 2025, with notifications by August 8, 2025. A pre-LOI call is strongly encouraged and can be scheduled via email with a regional program officer. Applicants who advance to the full proposal stage may undergo a site visit before final decisions are made. Grant awards range from $15,000 to $75,000, with an average of $30,000. Most grants support one-year implementation periods, and grantees may not reapply until 18 months after the initial award, contingent on submitting a final grant report. Payments are issued via ACH and award announcements follow site visits—June for the spring cycle and December for the fall cycle. The Foundation encourages applicants to view an instructional webinar (available from April 1, 2025) before initiating the LOI process. While applications are competitive, the Foundation offers clear guidance and accessible staff to support the proposal process. No match is required for Community Grants, and funding is focused on direct, measurable community impact.
