Grant Description

The Mechanicsburg Area Community Foundation (MACF), a regional foundation operating under The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC), administers an annual competitive grant program supporting nonprofit organizations serving residents in the Mechanicsburg zip codes 17050 and 17055. As a community-centered foundation, MACF emphasizes investments in innovative, collaborative approaches that aim to deliver tangible improvements in local quality of life. The foundation places a strong focus on proposals that demonstrate measurable outcomes, sustainability beyond the grant term, and the potential for replication across other communities. Beginning in 2026, MACF has expanded its support to address rising housing needs in Mechanicsburg by introducing an additional $10,000 specifically earmarked for housing-related nonprofit efforts. This targeted funding is designed to assist nonprofits in meeting urgent housing challenges and promoting long-term stability for individuals and families in need. Applicants interested in pursuing this housing-focused support must apply through the TFEC Grants Portal and must ensure their program activities fall within the designated zip code service area. Grants of up to $12,000 are available through the program, with applications opening on June 1, 2026 and closing on September 1, 2026. All submissions must be completed online by the deadline to be considered. Applicants will be notified of award decisions by December 1, 2026. If selected, grantees must have a representative attend MACF’s Annual Grant Presentation Program scheduled for Fall 2026, where grant checks will be distributed. Funded projects must take place during the calendar grant year beginning January 1, 2027 and concluding December 31, 2027. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or projects sponsored by a registered 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor. Only organizations that serve residents within the Mechanicsburg zip codes of 17050 and 17055 will be considered. The foundation will not fund capital campaigns, advertising, lobbying, retroactive projects, or new staff positions without sustainability plans. Faith-based organizations may not apply for religious programming. MACF prioritizes initiatives in the categories of Arts & Culture, Community Development, Education, Environment, and Health & Human Services. Special focus areas include housing stability, community pride, hospice services, early childhood education, and programs for individuals with terminal or debilitating illnesses. Grant proposals are evaluated by the MACF Advisory Committee, which may request interviews or site visits during the review process. The proposal review criteria emphasize alignment with MACF’s mission, defined roles and collaborations, diversified funding sources, measurable goals, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Nonprofits seeking guidance during the application process may request a draft review up to two weeks before the submission deadline. Additionally, questions about program alignment or technical support may be directed to TFEC's Philanthropy or Community Investment Teams by phone at 717-236-5040 or via email at [email protected] or [email protected].
