The California Sea Grant State Fellowship provides an immersive, 12-month, full-time opportunity for graduate students and recent graduates from California universities to gain experience in coastal and marine policy. Fellows are placed with municipal, state, or federal agencies and nonprofit organizations across California working on marine and coastal issues.
Fellows receive a $61,524 stipend plus up to $2,500 in travel support. The 2026 fellowship runs from January to March 2027. Eligible applicants must be near completion of a graduate degree or have graduated after May 1, 2024, in fields related to ocean, coastal, environmental policy, management, or law.
Applications must be submitted via eSeaGrant by June 13, 2025, at 5:00 PM PT. Required materials include a CV, transcripts, two recommendation letters, a personal statement, and a generative AI disclosure. Finalists will participate in a mandatory matching process with host agencies in September 2025.
