Minnesota is accepting proposals for Round 2 of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program from October 14, 2024, through January 13, 2025. This program is part of a federal initiative to develop a convenient, affordable, reliable, and equitable EV fast-charging network across the U.S. Minnesota anticipates receiving approximately $68 million over five years (federal fiscal years 2022–2026) to build and enhance EV infrastructure under this program, administered by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).
Eligibility Criteria
Proposals are open to both private and public entities. Successful applicants must form a contract with MnDOT and include:
An experienced charging network provider as part of the team.
Ownership or lease agreements for the property that cover at least five years of operations and maintenance.
Program Requirements
Funds will be used to build EV fast-charging stations along Minnesota’s Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs). Current AFCs include I-35, I-94, and I-90. Additional corridors may be added, as Minnesota has requested inclusion of I-90 in its AFC designation.
Projects must meet these key requirements:
Distance: Stations must be no more than 50 miles apart along the AFC.
Accessibility: Stations must be located within one mile of an AFC exit.
Capacity: Stations must include at least four 150 kW charging ports that can operate simultaneously.
Availability: Stations must be accessible to the public 24/7.
