OFSR is partnering with MCPS representatives to identify the school sites that will be prioritized for support based on the level of need within the school community and anticipated impact of new or expanded school-based food assistance programming.  Applicants will provide details within the Strategy Narrative regarding the scope of services they are capable of providing, and successful applicants will be asked to serve specific MCPS schools that have been identified based on alignment of individual school’s needs with providers’ current programs, experience, and capacity. Awardees will be matched with one or multiple school(s) following the grant review period; the school match(es) will be indicated in grant agreements.  The range of programming allowed under this grant is intentionally very flexible. Examples of project models that will be considered for funding include, but are not limited to: Choice pantry at the school site, offering school community members a choice model with access to a variety of culturally relevant, healthy shelf-stable and fresh food items including fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and eggs; Pre-packed box/bag distribution for students that includes healthy, locally sourced produce options; Delivery of nutritious, medically and/or preference-tailored prepared meals to school populations with unique needs; and Grocery Gift Cards distributed to school families that allow for flexible food purchasing and delivery options for families that experience transportation or other barriers to food access. Target Population  For students and families that rely on school meals and/or face barriers to food access related to transportation or otherwise, an in-school pantry or at-school food distribution can help to address nutrition insecurity and provide convenient access to necessary resources. The FY25 School-Based Food Assistance Grant Program will award funding to initiatives that will support food access at MCPS school sites throughout the County.” Eligibility Criteria  Lead applicants may only submit one application, and must meet all of the following conditions:  The organization must be a food assistance provider based in Montgomery County that has provided food assistance services over the past calendar year in at least one MCPS site, as demonstrated through attached documentation (ex: email documentation, formal contract or Memorandum of Understanding, or signed letter of support from an administrator at the school site); The organization must be currently registered and in Good Standing with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT); The organization’s principal place of business must be located in Montgomery County; if a national or regional organization, it must have a location in Montgomery County through which it provides related services;  All activities and expenditures under this grant program must be provided in Montgomery County and/or be exclusively for Montgomery County residents; The proposed project in the application must not exclude any potential beneficiaries and/or participants based on their race, ethnicity, gender, or any other protected class; Current Montgomery County contract or grant award winners must be current on all reporting obligations for other awards and those reports must reflect substantial progress towards the goals of their awards; and Proposed expenses must be for a new activity, expansion of existing activities, or a combination of both. The Fund is restricted to activities that support blood and blood-related products and services in accordance with the plan of disposition. Types of Support This RFP covers the implementation of Indigent Care Grants, Education Grants, and Scholarships as prescribed by the plan and described as follows: Indigent Care Grants To reimburse “qualified hospitals” for “un-reimbursed costs” directly related to providing blood or blood products to “qualified patients” within Santa Barbara County. Qualified hospitals” are hospitals with one or more licensed acute care facilities in the county that are organized as nonprofit public benefit corporations under the California Nonprofit Public Benefit Law, or as nonprofit corporations under the laws of another state, and that are described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.  Qualified patient” is a patient in a qualified hospital who is not covered by any form of private or government insurance whose income is 200% or less of the federal poverty line. “Unreimbursed costs ”are the qualified hospital’s direct cost of obtaining blood and blood products from a blood bank (i.e., the amount the qualified hospital actually pays to the blood bank for the blood or blood products), without regard to what the hospital charges its patients or their insurers for blood or blood products, and without regard to any expenses of the qualified hospital, including storage, handling, administrative fees, testing, etc. Education Grants and Scholarships Education grants are intended for: Advanced education in medical technology or nursing related to blood banking This supports any relevant training that could improve blood banking or the ability of hospital staff to work with the National Blood Foundation. It covers the full range of continuing education options, including in-service training. Physician education on techniques and development of transfusion medicine This covers the full range of enrichment and continuing education options including in-service training. Community education on blood and blood diseases This covers continuing education of medical practitioners as well as broad-based education targeting the general population.  For example, community education might include the following: educating school-age children about blood and blood-borne diseases; conducting broad-based educational programs to reach the community-at-large in the event of a critical shortage of blood; the dissemination of new information to the community concerning a blood-borne disease. Scholarships are intended for Post-doctoral education in a non-medical discipline related to blood and blood banking This program is only available to post-doctoral candidates enrolled at UCSB in departments such as, but not limited to, Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology; Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Medical education in the specialties of hematology/oncology. Project Period The grant period is up to one year from the award date. A final report is required and due within 13 months of the grant award, preferably no later than 30 days following the project completion. Eligibility Criteria Organizations must be certified as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or use a fiscal sponsor with 501(c)(3) tax status. Applications that do not contain a valid EIN (tax ID) number will not be considered. Organizations using a fiscal sponsor must include a one-page letter signed by the fiscal sponsor’s executive director signifying the intent to serve as such and describing the relationship between the fiscal sponsor and the sponsored organization. The 21st Century Museum Professionals Program provides funding to support the professional development of the museum workforce and the recruitment and training of future museum professionals. The program is administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and focuses on strengthening career pathways, professional networks, and inclusive recruitment strategies for individuals working in the museum sector. Projects are expected to address critical needs within the workforce, advance career development, and improve training opportunities across museums, associations, and related educational institutions. This program has two primary goals: supporting the professional development of the current museum workforce and recruiting and training future museum professionals. Projects must align with at least one goal and its associated objectives. Activities may include creating or enhancing training programs, developing evaluation strategies to identify best practices, adapting higher education programs, or offering internships, mentoring, and fellowships for underrepresented groups. Projects should be designed with measurable outcomes to ensure meaningful impact, such as improving skills, knowledge, or professional networks. The program will award up to eight grants with a total funding amount of two million dollars, with individual awards ranging from one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand dollars. The anticipated period of performance is July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. Applicants must provide cost share or match funds equal to or greater than the amount requested. Applications are due electronically through Grants.gov by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on November 15, 2024. Eligible applicants include museums, institutions of higher education, museum associations, nonprofit organizations supporting museums, and tribal organizations that meet specific criteria. Museums applying must employ professional staff, operate for educational or cultural purposes, and exhibit objects to the public for at least 120 days per year. Institutions within parent organizations may apply independently if they operate as discrete units with separate budgets and authority. Partnerships and collaborations with other entities are encouraged to expand project reach and impact. Applications must include required documents such as the narrative, budget form, organizational profile, and a performance measurement plan. The narrative is limited to seven pages and must address project justification, work plan, and expected results. Additional documents, including resumes, letters of commitment, and supporting materials, may also be submitted. Proposals will be evaluated based on alignment with program goals, the quality of the work plan, the experience of project personnel, and the potential impact of the results. The IMLS will use a peer review process to assess applications. Reviewers will evaluate proposals based on the project’s justification, the clarity and feasibility of the work plan, and the likelihood of achieving meaningful results. Successful applicants will be notified by June 2025, with projects starting no earlier than July 1, 2025. Reporting requirements include interim and final financial and performance reports submitted through the IMLS grants management system. Applicants are encouraged to contact IMLS program officers for guidance and to participate in webinars designed to assist with the application process.
