The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Office of Challenge Programs is accepting applications for Graduate Education in the Humanities: A National Convening, a cooperative agreement to plan and host a national convening to evaluate the current state of graduate education in the humanities, to make recommendations for programs to prepare graduate students for a variety of humanities-related careers, and to develop a roadmap that articulates a strategic vision for graduate education in the humanities. The project will be funded through a combination of federal matching funds and related fundraising from non-federal third parties.

This funding supports regional planning and development councils in Maryland to enhance economic growth and infrastructure in rural areas, with each council eligible for up to $600,000 to address local challenges.

The Essex Community Fund (ECF) at Adirondack Foundation invites local nonprofits, schools, churches, and municipalities to apply for grant funding. Eligible projects must serve town of Essex residents through community services, beautification, historic preservation, culture, the arts, education, or programs for youth and senior citizens. The deadline to apply is May 24. ECF gives strong preference to capacity building grants or modest one-time capital projects. It does not award grants for ongoing operating expenses. While grants typically range from $250 to $2,000, the maximum a potential grantee can request is $5,000. After reviewing applications, the ECF committee anticipates making grant recommendations in June with funding available as early as July. The Fund for Siouxland is an unrestricted endowment fund managed by the Siouxland Community Foundation, aiming to enhance the quality of life in the Siouxland communities. It utilizes the contributions from individuals, families, corporations, and other foundations to support a broad range of initiatives within an approximately 80-mile radius of Sioux City, Iowa. The fund prioritizes projects that collaborate with other agencies, address new and emerging needs with creative solutions, and demonstrate sound financial plans for future sustainability. Projects benefiting larger numbers of people, especially those at risk, are given preference. The Chamiza Foundation is dedicated to ensuring the cultural continuity of Pueblo tribes, focusing on supporting programs that sustain tribal life and traditions while fostering innovative change. Unlike efforts aimed at preserving Pueblo culture as an antiquity, the Chamiza Foundation views the culture of New Mexico's Pueblo tribes as a vibrant and valuable tradition worth sustaining. The Foundation is currently emphasizing the development of youth education programs in cultural traditions, Pueblo history, and language, alongside innovative technological applications in these areas. The Foundation supports 20 Pueblo Indian communities, including 19 in New Mexico and one in El Paso, Texas, offering grants for education, language preservation, youth projects, traditional arts and crafts, agriculture, and intercultural exchange. Eligible applicants include New Mexico’s Pueblo Indian organizations and tribal governments, Isleta del Sur Pueblo, community leaders, artists, and individuals within Pueblo communities, as well as non-Pueblo organizations with evidence of community support. This new multi-year grant program intends to create local community connections to California’s rich and diverse cultural history and natural areas outside of California’s state park boundaries. Eligible projects will enhance connections to local cultural history, local parks, open space or natural areas through community events, programming or installations that help to build sustainable community connections, health and well-being. The Local Parks Grants Program will be managed and administered by Parks California. This program supports the “Outdoor Access for All” initiative led by Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, along with the Natural Resources Agency’s “Outdoors for All” initiative, and California State Parks’ Reexamining Our Past Initiative.

The Leonard and Renee Minsky Fund for Arts Education aims to enhance arts education by enabling professional artists to collaborate with teachers in developing arts programs for grades 3-5 in public schools within Penobscot and Washington counties. This grant supports projects that integrate visual and/or performing arts into the curriculum, aligning with Maine Learning Results standards. Eligible applicants include schools meeting these criteria, with a focus on collaborative proposals involving arts teachers. Special Projects grants are available for Mercer County-based nonprofits and government units that present special New Jersey/Mercer County (including local) history programs or events. These grants support specific history-related activities such as exhibitions, educational projects, and preservation efforts. A 1:1 match is required, but 50% of this match can be in-kind. The application deadline is July 1, 2024.

Arts Respond - Cultural District Project Eligibility: TCA Cultural Districts; VERIFIED College Arts Institution, Established Arts Organizations, Established Arts Organizations of Color, Government Local Arts Agencies, Local Arts Agencies, Rural Arts Providers located within a TCA Designated Cultural District Intent: Projects that use the arts to diversify local economies, generate revenue, and attract visitors and investment. This competitive grant program provides project assistance grants on a short-term basis and may include administrative costs directly related to the project. This program is designed for projects that focus on significant cultural tourism projects. These projects should serve at least one of the following: High quality arts programming that will attract a significant number of visitors from 50 miles or more outside the community (i.e., blockbuster art exhibitions, national or regional premieres, major festivals) Enhancements to the cultural district to make it more accessible, attractive, cohesive-looking, and safe for visitors Improved signage and wayfinding for the district Promotion of the district; this may include the district’s website, branding, and marketing Organizational support for the management and operations of the district (TCA Cultural District only) These grants may include capital improvements. With this solicitation, BJA seeks to support efforts by both wrongful conviction review (WCR) entities, which represent individuals with post-conviction claims of innocence to review individual cases, and conviction integrity or review units (CIUs) to enhance criminal justice system integrity. This includes a category to select a training and technical assistance (TTA) provider to ensure WCR and CIUs entities and the field obtain the skills, training, and information on the latest practices to safeguard the integrity of convictions and support post-conviction review of claims of wrongful convictions. The TTA provider will also build and maintain a database for the field on exonerations.

With this solicitation, BJA seeks to provide grants to jurisdictions to improve outcomes for adults on community supervision. The Second Chance Act (SCA) of 2007 (Public Law 110-199), reauthorized by the First Step Act of 2018, provides a comprehensive response to assist in the transition individuals make from adult confinement facilities (e.g., jails, prisons, detention centers) to their communities so that the transition is successful and promotes public safety. The SCA is designed to help communities develop and implement comprehensive strategies that address the challenges posed by reentry and recidivism reduction. The Smart Supervision Program is part of the SCA suite of programs in fiscal year (FY) 2024.

With this solicitation, BJA seeks to support state, local, and tribal governments, as well as community-based nonprofit organizations, to establish, expand, or improve treatment and recovery support services for people with substance use disorders (SUDs) during their incarceration and upon reentry into the community. This program seeks to reduce crime and recidivism, expand access to evidence-based treatment, and promote long-term recovery for people leaving incarceration, and, in the process, improve public safety and public health.

Established in 1996, the Evansville Fund is a permanent charitable endowment aimed at supporting the Evansville community across various domains, including the arts, education, health and human services, and historic preservation. Through its annual earnings, a portion is allocated as grants to enhance community welfare, distributed to non-profit organizations, the local school district, and government agencies. The fund is characterized by its diverse Family of Funds, each established by individuals or organizations to support specific charitable objectives within Evansville.
