The U.S. Geological Surveys Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center (NOROCK) is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU Partner for research to assess distribution and threats to at-risk amphibians in the western USA. This research will focus specifically on how threats such as drought, non-native predators, habitat loss or transformation, environmental degradation, and pathogens are affecting the distribution and abundance of amphibians in the West. The Office of Citizen Exchanges, Youth Programs Division of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) announces an FY 2024 open competition for three distinct regional Youth Ambassadors programs (previously called Youth Leadership Programs) with select countries in East Asia and Pacific (EAP), Europe and Eurasia (EUR), and the Middle East and North Africa (NEA). U.S. public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to provide participants with four-week exchanges in the United States focused on the primary themes of civic education, leadership development, respect for diversity, and community engagement and to support the implementation of service projects in their home communities. The EAP and NEA programs also will engage approximately 3-5 adult mentors in programming alongside youth participants. Competitively selected U.S. secondary students will join participants in U.S.-based activities on the NEA exchanges. This funding opportunity is designated for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy to improve fish habitats in Salmon Creek, Pennsylvania, through a collaborative project with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

To aid BOEMs ongoing modeling efforts, this study aims to develop a near real-time (NRT) modeling system for the endangered North Atlantic right whale population and a survey segment database of cetacean and other marine wildlife observations. The modeling system will predict whale density across the eastern seaboard using real-time visual and acoustic observations, coupled with environmental covariates.The study objectives are to integrate various survey datasets, including aerial and ship surveys, into a segment database and develop NRT models that can respond more quickly and flexibly to shifts in species space use and phenology. BOEM and the National Marine Fisheries Service will fund this study jointly.Initially, the system will serve as a research and development testbed, allowing a collaborative team of developers to address statistical challenges and refine software workflow. After the effectiveness of the density models has been established, daily predictions will be made operational and disseminated to the public. The system's capabilities could be expanded to issue short-term forecasts and encompass additional species, contingent on data availability and the development of suitable methods.

This is a non-research pilot and program evaluation of two HIV prevention interventions for transgender women. To provide assistance to local, regional and, national nonprofit organizations to: (a) develop and implement effective community-based Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) prevention programs related to achieving national goals; (b) promote coordination for primary and secondary HIV prevention efforts among community organizations, HIV education/prevention service agencies, and public organizations including local and State health departments and substance abuse agencies; and (c) evaluate the HIV prevention programs for which support is provided.

Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) programs explore promising but unproven concepts with the potential to advance specific surface transportation systems. The Rail Safety IDEA program investigates innovative concepts and methods to improve safety and performance of railroads. The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) endeavors to provide funding for the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) to continue to carry out the Rail Safety IDEA program. FRA funding for the Safety IDEA program has been provided since October 2002. FRA joined the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), as a joint sponsor of the Safety IDEA program. FMCSA has been funding the Safety IDEA program since the program started in October 2001. In 2013, the Rail Safety IDEA program has become completely independent and separate from the FMCSA; therefore, all projects funded by this Grant must be railroad related projects.
