CDC announces availability of fiscal year 2024 funding for a cooperative agreement for Cycle 5 of the STD Surveillance Network (SSuN). Continuing resurgence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), along with the imperative to implement syndemic approaches to disease surveillance addressing related epidemics such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Mpox (Orthopox virus previously referred to as monkeypox) inform this competitive Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) which will support integrated sentinel and enhanced surveillance at the local, state, and national level. Emergent issues of concern such as Mpox and antimicrobial resistant STIs add urgency to the maintenance of robust syndemic surveillance at the community level and in sexual health clinical settings. The purpose of this NOFO is to support sentinel and enhanced surveillance for STDs providing complete demographics, behavioral risk, clinical and preventive services data missing in routine reporting. Sentinel clinic surveillance, enhanced investigations of reported cases, and special projects funded by this NOFO will provide epidemiologic and preventive services information filling gaps in knowledge regarding STI prevention priorities. These data improve the ability of public health agencies to address STI/HIV health equity outcomes and syndemic interactions in populations with shared risks.This NOFO supports two core strategies for (A) sentinel surveillance in sexual health clinical facilities, and (B) enhanced case-based surveillance in community settings. Both core strategies integrate a syndemic approach to monitoring STIs, HIV, behavioral data, and on preventive services accessed by all persons presenting for care in sexual health settings, and persons diagnosed and reported with selected STIs from all provider settings in defined geographic areas. The goal of this NOFO is to monitor and report trends in patient characteristics, screening, and diagnoses to identify opportunities and gaps across the STI/HIV prevention continuum. Protocols are designed to address critical information gaps in routine national case reporting and incorporate local flexibility to respond to emergent health issues by supporting a network of geographically diverse health departments and an expanded network of clinical partners. These efforts complement existing state, local and national surveillance strategies and enhance the capacity of health departments to collect high-quality, timely data to inform disease prevention and control activities.

The recipient for this cooperative agreement must be a qualified non-Federal public entity or nonprofit organization that serves low security inmates and/or individuals executing community service sentences within the Skamania County, WA, Clark County, WA, Hood River, OR and/or Multnomah County, OR correctional system, and has experience in land stewardship and restoration using small work crews supervised by experienced leaders so that ecological concepts can be accurately conveyed to work crew and leaders.

The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA), Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Office of New Drugs (OND), is announcing this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for a Cooperative Agreement. The proposed work directly supports the U.S. FDAs stated goal of protecting public health from unacceptable risks from nitrosamine impurities in human drugs. Although significant experimental and policy/regulatory initiatives have been undertaken in this area, there remains a need for further research into and development and refinement of translational and implementable practices that will protect the public against nitrosamine risks while ensuring continued safe access to critical therapeutic drugs. The aim is to improve the safety of human drugs with potential nitrosamine impurity liabilities. In addition to the work outlined above, the award recipient will assess how best to ensure that this research and practices development continues among industry members, non-profits, and/or academic institutions once the FDA funding for this cooperative agreement ends.

The U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong and Macaus Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S.Department of State announces an open competition for one cooperative agreement to carry out the U.S. Consulates 2025 Education Summer Scholarship Program in Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR, China. PAS Hong Kong and Macau invites U.S., Macau, and Hong Kong organizations skilled in facilitating and managing academic exchange programs to strengthen cultural ties between the United States and Hong Kong and Macau to submit proposals for a Cooperative Agreement to implement administrative and logistical aspects of this program. All proposals must address the following elements:1) Administration: Carrying out all administrative, logistical, and reporting responsibilities, as established by the assistance award, and following all relevant federal guidelines and circulars. Planning, organizing, and administering the program to include:a. Enroll students in the participating U.S. universities.b. Collect passports, forms, and other materials for visa processing.c. Work with students to sign all necessary documents, including waivers, consent forms, bank account statements, school documents, etc.d. Organize pre-departure orientation(s) for the group, to be held at the Consulate, with light refreshments.e. Organize debriefing upon the groups return to Hong Kong and Macau, to be held at the Consulate, with light refreshments.f. Liaise with parents and teachers regarding the students participation in this program.g. Determining any reasonable accommodation requirements of the students and relaying that to the Consulate for procuring appropriate services, if needed.h. Other required administrative and logistical tasks.2) Travel support for students in Hong Kong and Macau:a. Abiding by the Fly America Act, work with the U.S. university/ies to purchase roundtrip air tickets for travel between Hong Kong and the U.S. university location.b. Organize local travel for students in Hong Kong, and between Hong Kong and Macau (for Macau participants) for orientation, visa appointments, and debriefing.3) Management/disbursement/payment of expenses. These expenses must be included in the proposal:a. Phone cards.a. Round-trip air tickets (mentioned above).b. Local travel, visa fees and miscellaneous expenses.c. Tuition costs for each participant (based on $5,500 per person).Awardee must maintain accounting control over the funds provided by this award with proper documentation, including invoices, receipts, etc. that adequately substantiates all payments charged to this award.4) Creating and distributing pre- and post-program surveys in order to assess the impact of the program.5) Awardee organization will work closely with the Education Advisor at the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong and Macau on the project. Along with the Grants Officer, the Education Specialist exercises final authority to approve the project design, pace, itinerary, and budget expenditures within the parameters of current guidelines.
