The Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) is a partnership of seven federal wildland fire management and research agencies that have a shared need to address problems associated with managing wildland fuels, fires, and fire-impacted ecosystems. The partnering agencies include the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service (FS) and five bureaus in the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI): Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Geological Survey. The DOI also is represented by the Office of Wildland Fire. Funding to support the program is provided by both DOI and FS. The principle objective of the Traditional Conservation Grant Program is to support the development and implementation of States programs to conserve and recover threatened and endangered species under the Services jurisdiction. Financial assistance, provided in the form of grants, can be used to support projects that have direct benefits for federally listed species, candidate and at-risk species, and recently delisted species. States may apply for funding to conduct conservation work on federally-listed resident species that are included in the States cooperative agreement. States may also apply for funding to monitor candidate, at-risk, and recently delisted species. Projects proposed for funding may involve management, research, monitoring, and outreach activities or any combination thereof. Applications should include clear and specific information about how the proposed work would contribute to species recovery or prevent the need to list a species under the Endangered Species Act. Successful applications will be those that clearly demonstrate a direct benefit to the species or its habitat.

This funding opportunity is designed to establish a center that will coordinate and advance research on whole person health by integrating diverse biomedical knowledge and fostering collaboration among researchers.

The U.S. Embassy Libreville of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to empower local communities to better manage mangrove areas in Estuaire province in best practices for conservation and climate change mitigation, and concurrently rehabilitate damaged areas. Please follow all instructions below. Priority Region: Gabon Program Objectives: a) Rehabilitate critical mangrove areas through reforestation/replanting. b) Initiate an awareness and education campaign focused on educating local communities on the ecosystemic benefits of mangroves protection. c) Preparatory work in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, civil society, and local NGOs leading to the adoption of a law to protect, preserve and restore mangrove ecosystems in Gabon. The project kick-off for each activity should be as follows: 1. Planting of mangrove trees in critical areas - Identify deforested mangrove areas that are most critical to flood prevention - Coordinate with local communities to plant new mangrove trees 2. An awareness campaign in local communities - Once the critical mangrove areas are identified, an educational campaign will begin in those communities to sensitize them on the importance of preserving the mangroves for economic and security reasons. 3. Collaboration with the Gabonese government on a law protecting and preserving critical mangrove forests. - [The implementer will form] a working group of NGOs, civil society, scientists, and the government to identify opportunities for improvement in existing Gabonese law and draft a new law that addresses those weaknesses. - the working group will facilitate the presentation of the new law to the appropriate governmental authorities to be considered for law.

The U.S. Embassy Libreville of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to support Gabonese communities through modest grants that would positively impact communities. Program Objectives: Self-Help projects must foster community self-reliance. Self-Help activities must have community participation and contribution -- volunteer time and labor, donated land, equipment and materials -- and the U.S. contribution must be on a one-time basis only. Self-Help activities should have a significant impact, benefiting the greatest number of people possible. Projects that directly benefit a limited number of people are discouraged. Self-Help activities must help improve basic economic or social conditions at the local community or village level; Self-Help projects must also be viable and sustainable in terms of finance, personnel support (i.e. teachers for schoolrooms), and necessary expertise and services. Self-Help projects must also respect environmental norms for small projects. Self-Help activities must fall within the ability of the local community to implement. Activities that are too complex should be avoided.

This grant provides funding to state and territory Coastal Zone Management Programs for projects focused on restoring coastal habitats, planning and designing restoration efforts, and conserving coastal lands, with an emphasis on benefiting tribal, indigenous, and underserved communities.

This grant provides funding for National Estuarine Research Reserves to undertake coastal habitat restoration, planning, and land conservation projects that benefit coastal ecosystems and support underserved communities.

The EPA is seeking additional applications from eligible public and private nonprofit entities (see eligibility described in Section III.A of the Notice of Funding Opportunity) to assist current or prospective EPA grant recipients more effectively address their grant progress and performance requirements oftheir EPA-funded grant agreements. Fishers Ecological Knowledge (FEK) provides a rich and untapped source of information that can be used to inform BOEMs decisions regarding offshore wind; however, FEK has been vastly underutilized. The objective of this study is to collect FEK to improve BOEMs understanding of the use of the Gulf of Maine for fishing and the importance of fishing to the regional economy. BOEM will partner with the Responsible Offshore Science Alliance, and potentially with other interested organizations, to conduct this study.This study will identify local fishing communities willing to provide FEK and conduct interviews and workshops to collect the information. Importantly, the study will establish and execute clear methods for documenting, validating, and analyzing FEK. Collected data will be synthesized in an acceptable format (i.e., GIS and report documentation) to ensure the information can be incorporated into planning and resource management decisions.Additional planned tasks to be completed as part of the study include participatory mapping of fishing grounds, providing user guidance on spatial data tools like Marine Cadastre and the regional ocean portals, and providing regular updates to fishers regarding the spatial planning process and data needs in the Gulf of Maine. This effort must consider data confidentiality to ensure that fishing community information collected for this study are not misused. Such measures will be very important to instill confidence among fishers to accurately collect FEK.

The U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) announces an open competition for programming to support the adoption of mercury-Free processing technologies in Africas Sahel, focusing on Cote dIvoire. aimed at advancing the implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury by reducing mercury usage in artisanal and small-scale gold mining in Cote dIvoire. This programming will include developing mine site plans that will facilitate the application of interventions tailored to facilitating miners access to the formal financial sector and mercury-free gold processing technologies.
