Alaska Employment Labor and Training Grants

The purpose of this program is to increase representation of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people in science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) fields by increasing visibility and awareness of lesser-known STEM applied public health occupational and student opportunities as well as the benefits of these opportunities. Sanitation and engineering fields are often overlooked as applied public health STEM fields even though their work is the foundation of public health through providing and maintaining sanitary facilities and environments for homes and health care facilities. For example, the primary STEM occupational opportunities within the OEHE include civil and environmental (sanitation) engineering, general (health facility) engineering, and environmental health (sanitarian) professions (herein after collectively referred to as sanitation and engineering).The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is identified as a single (sole) source for this cooperative agreement. The AISES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity and leader in STEM opportunity in Indian Country with both a membership base and Board of Directors that is 100 percent American Indian. Its current membership is over 7,000 individual student and professional members, 248 pre-college chapters, 199 college chapters, 20 professional chapters, and 3 Tribal chapters.

Alaska State Council on the Arts, with support from Rasmuson Foundation, offers Access Grants of up to $1,000 to support short-term arts and cultural activities for grades K-12 at a school site during the school day. These grants aim to bring high-quality arts experiences to students and are part of the Cultural Collaborations program. Cultural Collaborations Grants The Cultural Collaborations and Arts Educator Fellowship Programs are made possible through support from the Rasmuson Foundation, administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. A school may apply for and receive an Arts Excursion grant, and a Project or Access Grant per school year. A school may also receive support for an Artists in Schools residency in the same school year, either as an individual school or through a district grant. Cultural Collaborations Project Grants Deadlines: June 1, for residency projects beginning no earlier than July 1; December 1 for residency projects starting no earlier than January 1. Cultural Collaborations Project Grants are matching awards of up to $6,000 in support of high-quality arts and cultural programs for youth that emphasize skill acquisition and direct participation in settings outside of the school day/year, in Alaska. Cultural Collaborations Project Grants are a program of the Alaska State Council on the Arts, with support from Rasmuson Foundation. Eligible projects/programs provide regularly scheduled sessions over an extended period of time. Nonprofit organizations, schools or school districts are eligible to apply. The Arts Educator Fellowship program provides grants to certified, permanently-assigned, full and part-time K-12 teachers to immerse themselves in their own creative work, interact with professional artists, and stay current with new artistic practice. The Arts Educator Fellowship is meant to create opportunities for Alaska teachers to fill their own artistic wells. Eligible applicants may apply for up to $3,000 in support of Arts Educator Fellowship (AEF) activities, based on actual expenses.

The Juneau Affordable Housing Fund (JAHF), established by the City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ), aims to increase affordable (0% to 80% area median income (AMI)) and middle-income (80% to 120% AMI) housing in Juneau. This initiative aligns with the CBJ's broader mission to address housing needs within the Capital City. The JAHF directs financial resources towards various activities including funding capital costs for rental and ownership housing, supporting capacity-building efforts for non-profit housing developers, and leveraging CBJ investments with other funding sources to maximize the creation and preservation of quality affordable and middle-income housing units. The primary beneficiaries of the JAHF are households within the affordable (0-80% AMI) and middle-income (80-120% AMI) ranges, as well as non-profit housing developers, public housing authorities, tribal governments, and for-profit developers who contribute to the creation of such housing. The impact goals include increasing the number of available affordable and middle-income housing units, fostering long-term affordability, and encouraging downtown housing development. The JAHF prioritizes the use of capital to develop housing units, specifically funding for acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, or preservation of affordable, middle-income, and senior housing, as well as homeowner opportunities. A key focus is on long-term affordability, with a preference for units created with affordability covenants or that are permanently affordable. Additionally, the fund prioritizes housing development within the boundaries established by the Downtown Juneau Residential Tax Abatement Map. Expected outcomes include a significant increase in the supply of affordable and middle-income housing units in Juneau. Measurable results will be tracked through the number of housing units created or preserved, the proportion of units designated for long-term affordability, and the geographic distribution of new developments, particularly in the downtown area. The CBJ’s strategic priority, as reflected in the JAHF, is to implement its Housing Action Plan by directing financial resources and incentives to address the critical need for diverse housing options across different income levels, thereby enhancing the overall livability and economic stability of the community.

Cultural Collaborations Excursion Grants Program in Alaska offers awards of up to $600 (or $1,000 for eligible Title I schools) to support transportation and admission costs for public or nonprofit schools attending arts and cultural events or visiting recognized venues in Alaska. Administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts with support from Rasmuson Foundation, schools can apply for multiple activities within one grant application but are limited to one grant per school year.

The Golden Heart Community Foundation (GHCF) offers grants to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations, Tribal entities, schools, and faith-based organizations that support charitable programs in the Fairbanks North Star Borough area. This geographic community fund aims to address the evolving charitable needs of the Greater Fairbanks area, with guidance from the Golden Heart Community Foundation Advisory Board. The mission alignment is centered on fostering community well-being and development across a broad spectrum of needs within the specified region. The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have established the Hurricane Response Marine Debris Removal Fund. This fund supports projects focused on assessing, removing, and disposing of marine debris in coastal communities affected by hurricanes and other storm events. The initiative aligns with the foundations' broader mission to conserve and restore fish, wildlife, and their habitats, as well as to benefit human communities impacted by natural disasters. The program aims to address both the immediate and long-term consequences of storm-related marine debris. The program prioritizes projects that offer dual benefits, meaning they benefit both human communities and fish and wildlife. Emphasis is placed on projects that are ready for direct clean-up efforts and have already completed marine debris assessments, addressed hazardous materials, and secured necessary permits and disposal logistics. Community engagement and co-design processes that incorporate traditional knowledge are also encouraged to ensure maximum benefits and sustainability. Expected outcomes include a significant reduction in marine debris from coastal habitats and nearshore waters, leading to enhanced ecological integrity and functionality of ecosystems. Measurable results will include the reduction of impacts to properties, community infrastructure, assets of economic and cultural importance, and improved navigational safety. The grant duration is four years, with awards of up to $6 million to achieve these accelerated and comprehensive outcomes for impacted coastal resources and communities.
