GrantExec Featured on Federal News Network: The Hidden Impact of $19 Billion in Federal Grant Terminations
We recently joined The Federal Drive with Terry Gerton on Federal News Network to discuss one of the most significant shifts in the federal funding landscape in recent history: the termination and revocation of billions in grant funding.

In the interview, GrantExec Co-founder Ryan Alcorn and Chief Product & Data Officer Zoe Kendall shared insights from our latest analysis, which uncovered over $19 billion in terminated grant programs—representing more than 40% of today’s federal grant market.
“We’re sitting at $19 billion in terminated grant programs… that’s over 40% of the market today,”
said Zoe Kendall.
“No corner of federal research or social services was left untouched.”
This isn’t just about numbers. These terminations—and an additional $40 billion in revoked awards—affect thousands of organizations, from research universities and NGOs to state health departments and local governments. Entire communities that were counting on these programs are now grappling with uncertainty.
Why This Matters
Scale of Impact: Programs across science, education, health, and social services have been cut—no sector left untouched.
Data Gaps: Many cancellations weren’t clearly communicated. Some opportunities vanished from public sites like Grants.gov without explanation, leaving grantees in the dark.
Urgency for Action: Organizations are now seeking alternative funding sources to keep critical work moving forward.
As Ryan explained:
“We’ve identified over 15,000 revoked awards to organizations—some mid-flight—impacting universities, research institutions, and even state health departments losing over $1 billion each. The gravity of this cannot be understated.”
How GrantExec is Helping
When asked how organizations can adapt, Zoe emphasized the importance of transparency:
“The lack of standardization created chaos for grant seekers who had spent months preparing applications—only to find the programs gone. That’s why we built a public dashboard to track these changes in real time.”
Ryan also pointed to the need for diversification:
“Look beyond federal. State, local, and private foundations are stepping up in areas like global health, DEI, and deep research. These alternative streams can help organizations stay resilient.”
