Awardees and grant amounts will be determined based on the strength of the proposal, adherence to selection criteria, and the availability of funds. The grant is designed to cover personnel costs (salaries/fringe benefits), other direct costs such as supplies, printing, mailings, mileage, and contractual services, as well as indirect costs. Indirect, fringe benefits, or administrative costs should be estimated using an approved negotiated cost agreement, or a rate of 10% of modified total direct costs if such an agreement is not available. This structure ensures that funded projects are adequately resourced to achieve their stated objectives and contribute effectively to the REA.

The "Disciplinary Hearing Officer Training for Corrections" grant aims to develop a comprehensive training program to educate correctional staff on maintaining fairness and legal compliance during disciplinary proceedings, thereby enhancing public safety and promoting successful rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals.

The purpose of this project is to support Hondurans National Police (HNP) in the implementation of the Police Athletic League (PAL) program in Honduras. The targeted population is at-risk youth in Honduras between the ages of seven (7) and eighteen (18) who live in communities at high risk of violence and gang activity. The Police Athletic League will be launched by HNP Officers in November 2024 as a pilot program with approximately 2,500 children enrolled in 6 principal cities in Honduras: Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, Tela, La Paz and Roatan. Soccer will be one of the main target activities available nationwide, including leagues for both females and males for primary and middle school students. This initiative aims to promote inclusivity and equitable athletic development, with teams comprised of 18 participants each, including 6 female and 6 male players in primary and secondary schools.

Funding will support communities to develop, enhance, or expand early intervention programs and/or treatment services for girls involved in the juvenile justice system. The goal of this program is to reduce risk factors and promote protective factors for girls who come in contact with the juvenile justice system, and place them on a path toward success, stability, and long-term contribution to society.

Eligible projects span various formats, including community discussions, lecture series, workshops, films, interpretive exhibits, and podcasts. While creative or performing arts projects may be eligible, they must serve as a catalyst for a humanities-centric project and include interpretation and/or discussion of the art. Subject areas considered include archaeology, comparative religion, cultural anthropology, ethics, folklore, gender studies, history, jurisprudence, languages, law, linguistics, literature, philosophy, and the interpretation of the arts, as well as aspects of social sciences that explore humanity and meaning within communities. Expected outcomes include increased public engagement with humanities topics and enhanced cultural vitality across Iowa. Projects are expected to benefit diverse groups of Iowans through educational programming. Measurable results would likely stem from the types of eligible projects, such as attendance at community discussions, lecture series, or workshops, or the reach of films, exhibits, or podcasts. The funding period for all project activities and expenses is November 1, 2024, to October 31, 2025, with grants ranging from $2,500 to $30,000 to cover eligible one-time project expenses.
