The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement is to provide tailored support for early stage investigators (ESIs) to initiate basic or translational research with nonhuman primates (NHPs). These awards will allow ESIs additional funds, time to generate preliminary data, and the opportunity to establish all skills needed to set up and run an NHP laboratory independently. It is expected that these awards will thereby improve an ESIs ability to secure larger research awards (e.g., R01) and will facilitate their transition to independent tenure-track positions.

These applications should create, promote, and use new and/or existing P2 tools and information, green technology solutions, innovative financing partnerships or approaches, and multi-media and multistakeholder leadership approaches to measurably improve public health and the environment, by reducing the use of hazardous substances, reducing toxic pollutants, or supporting efficiencies in the reduction of pre-consumer resources (such as greenhouse gas emissions, plastics, water, and energy), and reducing beneficiary organization costs.

CPO plays a critical role in advancing science and informing decisions for climate adaptation, resilience, and mitigation as part of NOAA and the U.S. Global Change Research Program. CPO research/science programs and activities meet urgent climate challenges, and incubate innovative advancements in Earth system and social sciences; support world-class assessment reports, including the National Climate Assessment; enhance and expand NOAAs capabilities for integrated information systems for drought, heat and floods to deliver timely science-based information that can reduce the impacts and costs of these climate-driven challenges; educate and grow the next generation of experts in support of NOAAs climate mission.
