The "Access and Manipulation of Brain Cell Subtypes Implicated in Aging and AD/ADRD" grant aims to fund innovative research strategies that use advanced tools to target and manipulate specific brain cells affected by aging, Alzheimer's Disease, and related dementias, in order to better understand these conditions and their impact on brain function.

The U.S. Embassy in Paraguay announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to cultivate data-driven journalism in the Western Hemisphere for countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Priority Region: Western Hemisphere/Latin America.Program Objectives: In the Western Hemisphere, seven countries maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Publics in these countries thus have less frequent exposure to information about how the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) relates to countries with which it maintains official relations. Likewise, journalists have fewer opportunities to develop expertise on the PRC and its relations with other countries, leaving them and the publics they serve relatively more vulnerable to misconceptions and disinformation on related topics. Many publics in Taiwan-recognizing countries maintain idealized views of the benefits that switching to official relations with the PRC would bring. The United States has an opportunity to support partner nations who maintain official relations with Taiwan by addressing this information gap through journalist training that builds investigative skills to reinforce fact-based reporting, journalistic capabilities, and base knowledge about PRC economic practices. Such economic practices include those related to the environment, infrastructure projects, labor practices, compliance with good governance and human rights principles, etc. At the same time, an opportunity exists to strengthen journalists resilience to manipulation of information ecosystems and to harassment or other pressure that discourages them from publishing factual content.The goal of this award is to improve access to accurate information in Western Hemisphere Taiwan-recognizing countries about the full impact of diplomatic relations with (in particular, switching to diplomatic relations with) the PRC.

Approaches to build trust in the healthcare system and distribute high-quality health guidance in an understandable manner that improves patient outcomes. Approaches that enable health infrastructure to rapidly integrate information from new sensors; create decision support tools; adapt supply chains, manufacturing, and logistics; and better leverage the workforce during public health emergencies. Increased computing power, the availability of large datasets and streaming data, and algorithmic advances in machine learning (ML) have made it possible for AI research and development to create new sectors of the economy and revitalize industries. Continued advancement, enabled bysustainedfederal investment and channeled toward issues of national importance, holds the potentialfor further economic impact and quality-of-life improvements. The 2023 update to theNational Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Strategic Plan,informed byvisioning activities in the scientific communityas well asinteraction with the public, identifies as its first strategic objective the need to make long-term investments in AI research in areas with the potential for long-term payoffs in AI. AI Institutes represent a cornerstone Federal Government commitment to fostering long-term, fundamental research in AI while also delivering significantly on each of the other eight objectives in that strategy. The National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence (NSCAI) identifies AI Institutes as a key component of a bold, sustained federal push to scale and coordinate federal AI R funding and to reinforce the foundation of technical leadership in AI. This program is a multisector effort led by the National Science Foundation (NSF), in partnership with the Simons Foundation (SF), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Department of Defense (DOD) Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD (R)), Capital One Financial Corporation (Capital One),and Intel Corporation (Intel). The purpose of this program is to improve access to evidence-based, timely, and culturally relevant maternal mental health and substance use (behavioral health) intervention and treatment by strengthening community referral pathways. Recipients will be expected to collaborate with pregnancy and postpartum healthcare organizations, refer individuals in need of behavioral health care to the appropriate entities, and provide short-term mental health and substance use services to individuals who cannot access care.

The MMRDA mechanism is intended to fund the logical continuation of previously DOD-funded research or development efforts relevant to the above FY24 JWMRP Focus Areas with the highest potential to augment and accelerate medical product development and health care solutions for active-duty Service Members, their Families, Veterans, and/or the American public. Collaboration with DOD organizations is encouraged when this alliance would contribute to the success of the research effort, and any funds designated for DOD laboratories or activities should be identified in the application/proposal through submission of a Suggested Intragovernmental/Intramural Budget Form, Attachment 15. Applications/proposals from small businesses and/or partnerships with industry are also encouraged. The MMRDA mechanism supports a wide range of research projects, spanning late-stage preclinical studies, late-state technology development efforts, technology demonstration, and translational research. A Clinical Research or Clinical Trial Option is available to specifically support clinical research/observational studies, all phases of clinical trials/interventional studies, and/or correlative studies in support of the development of promising pharmaceutical or biologic candidates, medical devices, and technologies. LITCs ensure the fairness and integrity of the tax system for taxpayers who are lowincome or speak English as a Second Language (ESL) by: • Providing pro bono representation on their behalf in tax disputes with the IRS; • Educating them about their rights and responsibilities as taxpayers; and • Identifying and advocating for issues that impact these taxpayers. LITCs must: • Provide dollar-for-dollar matching funds; and • Offer LITC services for free or for no more than a nominal fee.
