Applications are accepted from eligible entities (Section C) for projects carried out in the state of Texas. A total of up to $1,000,000 is available for the Texas CIG competition in FY 2024. MGFSP assists agricultural agencies or departments in eligible states and territories to increase the quantity and quality of locally grown food in food insecure communities through small-scale gardening, herding, and livestock operations by competitively distributing subawards to eligible entities.USDA promotes climate-resilient landscapes and rural economic systems, including tools to support agriculture, forests, grazing lands, and rural communities. The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Center for Food and Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) is announcing its intention to receive and consider a single source application for the award of a cooperative agreement in fiscal year 2024 to Cornell University to support the Center for Veterinary Medicine and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The purpose of this support is to:1. Carry out multidisciplinary applied research projects on raw milk cheese aging to examine factors that affect Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza (HPAI H5N1) virus inactivation, to include pH and water activity.2. Carry out multidisciplinary applied research projects on commonly used acidification methods for treatment of waste milk to be fed to calves, or for disposal, to understand effects on HPAI H5N1.3. Carry out multidisciplinary applied research projects to characterize the thermal inactivation kinetics of HPAI H5N1 in a wide variety of dairy products.4. Provide additional capabilities and capacity for HPAI H5N1 testing as needed to help meet the needs of FDA's research agenda. 5. Engage with academic and industry stakeholders to help ensure work is complementary of other ongoing research in these research spaces and to facilitate the use of the information produced by the research program.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)/ Center for Food and Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) is announcing its intention to receive and consider a single source application for the award of a cooperative agreement in fiscal year 2024 to the Illinois Institute of Technology to support the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH). The purposes of this continued support are to:1. Carry out multidisciplinary applied research projects on pre- and postharvest processing preventive control measures, on food processing and packaging technologies, on the impact of these processing strategies on the nutritional quality of food, and on laboratory method performance (including method validation) that address research needs associated with FDA-regulated products, fill knowledge gaps identified in prevention strategies, and that are consistent with the Deputy Commissioner of Foods vision for the implementation of the new Human Foods Program (HFP) Science and Research Strategic Plan;2. Maintain and facilitate the further development of the IFSH collaborative research program by leveraging resources among U.S. government agencies, universities (including other IIT components), and the food industry to achieve practical Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)-based, technology-enabled New Era of Food Safety solutions to food safety and food processing issues.3. Engage with stakeholders to develop and implement training, outreach and communication programs, to identify research needs, and to facilitate the use of the information produced by the research program; and4. The purpose of the Behind the Tray Food Science for School Meals cooperative agreement, is to develop and implement a week-long in-person science-based food safety education training program. The education program is designed to enhance the food science literacy of school nutrition professionals. Program participants should learn the fundamentals of food science and food processing, with a special emphasis on food safety and food microbiology topics, learn how this information applies to their job, apply this knowledge to their nutrition programs, and how to better communicate these topics to stakeholders.

The purpose of the Cacao for Peace (CfP) activity is to provide scientific and regulatory support to the public and private sectors to strengthen the cacao sector in Colombia. In this activity, CfP seeks to support an activity that will strengthen Colombias cacao value chain through increased coordination and practical application of existing research, identify innovative research proposals, and establish a process to disseminate research to its end users. These activities support the Cacao for Peace intermediate result: Establish a mechanism for coordinated and scientifically robust cacao research in Colombia.

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) is a trade agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) with the mission to promote U.S. agricultural exports. The intended outcome of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to advance efforts for a nationally Integrated Food Safety System (IFSS) by supporting Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS), Food Protection Task Force (FPTF) programs, Dietary Supplement (DS) programs, and special projects. For the purposes of this NOFO, the term state encompasses all eligible organizations as defined in Section 3. MFRPS Development or Maintenance: The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) section is to advance efforts for a nationally Integrated Food Safety System (IFSS) by assisting state manufactured food regulatory programs to achieve and maintain conformance with the most current version of the Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS). The MFRPS are intended to ensure that state manufactured food regulatory programs implement a high-quality regulatory program through the development and maintenance of a regulatory framework that builds on and emphasizes mutual reliance with all programs. Also, the program standards are intended to enhance food safety by establishing a uniform basis for measuring and improving the performance of manufactured food regulatory programs in the United States. Conformance with these program standards will help federal and state programs better direct their regulatory activities at reducing foodborne illness hazards in plants that manufacture, process, pack, or hold foods. Food Protection Task Force (FPTF): The purpose of this funding option is to establish and/or support a Food Protection Task Force (FPTF) with diverse membership representative of stakeholders across the state that is responsible for promoting the integration of an efficient statewide human and animal food (HAF) protection system that addresses state and region-specific needs and that maximize the protection of the public health. These efforts include: establishing a food safety/protection network of subject matter experts, fostering educational opportunities, developing replicable resources and systematically fostering communication, education, outreach, cooperation and collaboration within the states among federal, state, local, tribal and territorial HAF protection, public health, agriculture, and regulatory agencies, industry, academia, and consumers to initiate and/or support HAF protection activities to improve public health. A strong FPTF can also help improve human and animal food emergency surveillance, response, and post-response systems by focusing on preparedness, building strong communication channels, and establishing relationships with key players before food-related incidents occur. Dietary Supplements: The goal of this funding option is to facilitate the development of state driven dietary supplement regulatory framework and programs. The overall objective of this funding opportunity is to advance the adoption and implementation of the cGMPs for Dietary Supplements Rule codified at 21 CFR Part 111. Specifically, this track will provide funding support for dietary supplement training and program development activities. Special Projects: The purpose of this funding option is to develop and implement special projects that support innovation and integration in a IFSS using the MFRPS framework. This track will support other emerging food safety priorities that develop over the lifespan of the project.
