Alaska Humanities Grants

This grant provides funding for nonprofit organizations in the Pacific Northwest to support strategic projects that promote community well-being, education, health, and cultural initiatives.

The Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Culture and Arts Development Grant Program for FY 2024/2025 is a $1.5 million fund managed by the National Park Service, aimed at supporting nonprofit organizations that serve Native Hawaiian or Alaska Native populations in preserving and advancing their culture and arts through various forms such as language, visual and performing arts, and history.

The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council administers the City and Borough of Juneau Major Grants to provide operating support for local arts nonprofit organizations. The program seeks to cultivate vibrant arts and cultural opportunities and to build a strong, prosperous community where creativity and innovation thrive. Funding may support a specific project or season operations. Review criteria include compatibility with core values, artistic quality, community benefit, organizational capacity to manage programs and events, number of individuals served, evaluation processes, prior compliance with grant policies, budget realism, and sound program management. Organizations must be current with licenses and registrations. Eligible applicants are local nonprofit organizations serving Juneau and surrounding Southeast Alaska communities. Projects funded in 2024 to 2025 will occur from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. The program supports community art encouragement and services that enrich quality of life and promote the creative economy. Applications are due May 1, 2024. Alaska State Council on the Arts, with support from Rasmuson Foundation, offers Access Grants of up to $1,000 to support short-term arts and cultural activities for grades K-12 at a school site during the school day. These grants aim to bring high-quality arts experiences to students and are part of the Cultural Collaborations program. Cultural Collaborations Grants The Cultural Collaborations and Arts Educator Fellowship Programs are made possible through support from the Rasmuson Foundation, administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. A school may apply for and receive an Arts Excursion grant, and a Project or Access Grant per school year. A school may also receive support for an Artists in Schools residency in the same school year, either as an individual school or through a district grant. Cultural Collaborations Project Grants Deadlines: June 1, for residency projects beginning no earlier than July 1; December 1 for residency projects starting no earlier than January 1. Cultural Collaborations Project Grants are matching awards of up to $6,000 in support of high-quality arts and cultural programs for youth that emphasize skill acquisition and direct participation in settings outside of the school day/year, in Alaska. Cultural Collaborations Project Grants are a program of the Alaska State Council on the Arts, with support from Rasmuson Foundation. Eligible projects/programs provide regularly scheduled sessions over an extended period of time. Nonprofit organizations, schools or school districts are eligible to apply. Excursion Grants, bringing Kids to Arts, are awards of up to $600 ($1,000 for eligible Title I schools,) to support transportation and admission costs incurred in attending arts and cultural events, and/or visiting recognized arts and cultural venues in Alaska. A school may only receive one Excursion grant per school year, but may apply for multiple Excursion activities in one grant application. Cultural Collaborations Access Grant Guidelines and Application Word format PDF format Cultural Collaborations Access Grant Final Report Form Word format PDF format Arts Educator Fellowships Deadline: March 15 Rasmuson Foundation initiated the Arts Educator Fellowships to encourage the reconnection of artists who are teachers to the practice of their art; Arts Educator Fellowship are a program of the Alaska State Council on the Arts (ASCA), supported by funding from Rasmuson Foundation. The Arts Educator Fellowship program provides grants to certified, permanently-assigned, full and part-time K-12 teachers to immerse themselves in their own creative work, interact with professional artists, and stay current with new artistic practice. The Arts Educator Fellowship is meant to create opportunities for Alaska teachers to fill their own artistic wells. Eligible applicants may apply for up to $3,000 in support of Arts Educator Fellowship (AEF) activities, based on actual expenses.

The Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, with support from the Juneau Community Foundation, offers Individual Artist Grants to assist experienced artists of exceptional talent in producing original work or advancing their careers. The program invests in local artists across disciplines to strengthen the cultural vitality of Juneau, Alaska. Eligible disciplines include visual arts, creative writing, music, dance, theater, design, and other creative fields. Grants may not exceed 1,000 dollars and support projects taking place from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Funds may be used for project costs, materials, professional development, or other expenses directly tied to creating new work or career advancement. Applicants must submit original work samples demonstrating exceptional talent and professional commitment, have been a Juneau resident for the past year, plan to remain in Juneau for the duration of the project, and be current on reporting for any prior awards. Artists who received an Individual Artist Grant in the previous cycle are not eligible in the current cycle. Applications are due May 1, 2024. This grant provides funding to journalists and media organizations in Alaska for in-depth reporting on complex and underreported issues, as well as arts and culture stories, to enhance public understanding and engagement.

The Seward Community Foundation (SCF) Annual Grant Program, an initiative under The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF), is designed to support a wide range of charitable activities in Seward and Moose Pass, including health and wellness, education, outdoor activities, arts and culture, animal welfare, and community development. This program is open to qualified, tax-exempt organizations such as 501(c)(3) entities, Tribal entities, schools, and faith-based organizations operating in or serving these communities. To be eligible for funding, applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm AKST on February 2, 2024. Grant projects or programs must be completed within one year of the award date, with the possibility of an extension approved by the SCF Advisory Board. Grant renewed every year.
