Red Coats’ Community Grants The Red Coats are a group of civic and corporate leaders who oversee THE PLAYERS volunteer efforts and a special grant program for local nonprofits. The Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program (TA), funded by the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the Surface Development Block Grant, is administered by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). This program is dedicated to funding smaller-scale transportation projects that enhance nonmotorized travel options and safety. Eligible projects include on- and off-road bicycle and pedestrian facilities, recreational trails, safe routes for non-drivers, safe routes to schools, and ADA compliance improvements. Furthermore, TA supports projects that incorporate cultural, historical, and environmental elements into transportation infrastructure, such as historic preservation, vegetation management, archaeological activities related to transportation, and environmental mitigation related to stormwater and habitat connectivity. The City of Tallahassee's Vibrant Neighborhoods Grant Program (VNG) aims to support resident-led projects that improve the quality of life in Tallahassee neighborhoods. Administered by the City's Neighborhood Affairs Division, the program seeks projects that provide public benefits in categories such as community beautification/placemaking, community enrichment programs/initiatives, and neighborhood events. This summer, small farmers and ranchers have a grant opportunity through the Board of County Commissioners. The Board is funding a mini-grant to Alachua County-based farms and ranches that earn between $1,000 and $250,000 annually. If this is the applicant’s first public activation, a comprehensive and detailed business plan needs to be submitted.  The applicant must provide a confirmation letter or a letter of intent from the event venue confirming dates and times for the activation. Timelines for the activation must include all stages of the project/event including pre-marketing, live event, and wrap-up/post-event.  If the project/event requires permitting from the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County, or approval from Bayfront Park, you are required to provide a copy of either the submitted permit application or an approved permit with your application.
