SCRIPT Workshop Grants are available to assist Iowa school districts and accredited nonpublic schools with the cost for substitutes or stipends to attend a SCRIPT Workshop, where they will begin the development of their K-12 computer science plan. The grants aim to support the implementation of a 2020 state law, HF 2629, which mandates districts and nonpublic schools to develop and implement a kindergarten through grade twelve computer science plan by July 1, 2022. This plan should incorporate the standards. The funding for these grants comes from a portion of a 2007 court-approved settlement of a class-action antitrust lawsuit filed against Microsoft Corp., which has been designated for K-12 computer science curriculum for students and training for teachers in Iowa.

Our grantees work to build on the entrepreneurial spirit, strong community ties, and untapped potential within Native nations, communities of color, rural communities, and other resilient communities who have fewer opportunities to thrive on their own terms. We envision strong, vibrant communities where people are connected to good jobs and have the financial capability to build their assets and provide a secure future for their families and communities. A Need to Close the Opportunity Gaps Our economic system doesnโt work for everyone. It widens income and opportunity gaps, restrains economic mobility, and traps people and communities in a cycle of poverty and injustice. A disproportionate number of Native Americans, people of color, refugees, immigrants, and rural Americans are living in crisisโor just a paycheck away from it. Nationally, six in 10 families of color donโt have the cash on hand to cover basic expensesโlike rent, medical emergencies, or the need to fix a carโfor three months.
