East Buffalo Small Business Working Capital Grant Program As part of her Juneteenth announcement, and in response to the May 14, 2022 racially motivated mass murder of 10 persons at Tops Friendly Markets in the Jefferson Avenue Business District in East Buffalo, Governor Hochul committed to making $50 million in community investments in housing, business, and other types of relief available. The East Buffalo Small Business Working Capital Grant Program is part of this investment. The $3 million program will provide grants of $5,000 to $50,000 to eligible small businesses in a designated area of East Buffalo to help largely minority-owned establishments rebound from the social and economic impacts of the mass shooting at Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue earlier this year. Measurable results will be tied to the successful allocation of grants at either $7,000 or $10,000, and the effective use of these funds for eligible expenses such as rent, marketing, staffing, equipment, and program costs. The Fund for Women Barriers to Care Program 2023 in New York provides financial assistance to women currently undergoing medical treatment for breast cancer in Chemung, Schuyler, or Steuben Counties. Grants are awarded based on financial need and can be used for expenses such as transportation, childcare, food, and prosthetics. Each grant is limited to $500, and applicants may be receiving treatment within or outside the region as long as they live locally.

High Impact Community Outreach (HICO) was proposed by the UUCSF Board of Trustees and approved by the congregation in late 2019. It is a long-term program to fund projects that can make a difference in our local communities and develop connections between the congregation and grantees. Thank you for your interest in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork’s (UUCSF) High Impact Community Outreach (HICO) program. Each grant cycle is unique as we select different areas of focus highlighting specific needs in our community. We ask that all applicants ensure that their projects align with at least one of those needs. This is the fifth year of the HICO program. Our focus tries to address the changing needs of our East End community. This year we are shifting from concentrating on the basics to addressing unmet demands of several constituencies. We are cognizant of the pressure on social services by a growing population and recognize that some individuals/groups are being left behind.
