Guidelines No waivers or exceptions to the policies set forth here will be allowed. Schools that are applying for a grant must have a project that will impact the entire school and not just a single classroom. They must also have the approval of their school principal. Only one grant request per organization is permitted. The Grants Committee will allow multiple schools and multiple departments within a municipality to apply, but has the ultimate decision authority. Nonprofit organizations must have their own 501(c)(3) status by the deadline of the grant application. During the review process, any grant request that the Committee cannot agree to fund to at least 50% of their total request will not be funded. If a grant is made as a “matching grant” the Foundation will not release a check to the grantee until the match has been made. Grantmaking Restrictions The High Point Community Foundation does not make grants for the following: costs already incurred, endowments, loans or mortgages, sectarian purposes, political purposes, or to individuals. State wide or national programs will not be considered unless funding is sought for a portion of the program that directly benefits the greater High Point area. Organizations may not submit more than application for funding per grant cycle and must have its own 501(c)(3). No waivers or exceptions will be allowed. All organizations must provide the appropriate annual financial statements using the following guidelines approved by the Board of Trustees: Grant applicants having an annual budget of $100,000 or less shall attach a copy of the most recent tax return (Form 990) or postcard which has been filed with the IRS. Grant applicants having an annual budget of more than $100,000 but less than $200,000 should attach a copy of the most recent federal tax return (Form 990) which has been filed with the IRS, which has been prepared and signed by an independent CPA, and a copy of financial statements together with a compilation report by an independent CPA. Grant applicants having an annual budget of more than $200,000 but less than $400,000 should attach a copy of the most recent federal tax return (Form 990) which has been filed with the IRS and has been prepared and signed by an independent CPA, and a copy of financial statements together with a review report by and independent CPA. Grant applicants having an annual budget of $400,000 or more should attach a copy of the most recent federal tax return (Form 990) which has been filed with the IRS and has been prepared and signed by an independent CPA, and a copy of financial statements together with an audit report by an independent CPA. The Student STEM Enrichment Program (SSEP) supports diverse programs with a common goal: to enable primary and secondary students to participate in creative, hands-on STEM activities for K-12 students and pursue inquiry-based exploration in BWF’s home state of North Carolina. Since the program’s inception in 1996, BWF has awarded 288 grants totaling $43.3 million to 136 organizations that reach more than 43,000 North Carolina students. Program Goals In line with the mission of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, projects that are funded under SSEP must seek to attain three goals: improving students’ competence in science and mathematics nurturing student enthusiasm for science and mathematics interesting students in pursuing careers in research or other science-related areas. Funding Information The grant provides up to $60,000 per year for three years for a maximum of $180,000. Eligibility Criteria  The Student STEM Enrichment Program (SSEP) is open to nonprofit organizations in North Carolina. Eligible organizations include public and private schools, colleges and universities, community groups, museums, zoos, scientific groups, and others that can provide experiential activities for K-12 North Carolina students. Individuals and nonprofit organizations that offer religious programming are not eligible for SSEP awards. Guidelines  Successful projects generally include the following examples of activities to achieve these goals: helping students learn the basic process skills in scientific inquiry—observing, comparing, measuring (using apparatus), communicating, analyzing, generating, and evaluating providing students with opportunities that will increase their insight into and appreciation of the investigative process supplying students with STEM-related career information and introducing career prospects connecting science and mathematics to students’ daily lives and providing an opportunity to use technology in project activities enabling students to interact with scientists and other STEM professionals providing students with opportunities to explain their knowledge of STEM to others providing guidance on how students may connect with other ongoing STEM-related programs involving parents in program activities For more information, visit Burroughs Wellcome Fund.

Funding Information Grants for in school programs range from $500-$2,000, and grants for out of school programs range from $500-$5,000. Program must take place between July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must be located in Buncombe County for at least 1 year. Applicants must be a 501c3 nonprofit arts organization OR a qualified teaching artist. Qualified Teaching Artist- To be considered a qualified teaching artist, you must have either a BA or BFA in their specific art form, or an equivalent in training and experience. Must have at least 5 years of experience working in arts education. Programs must serve students in Buncombe County or City of Asheville K-12 public schools. Programs must be free for students and schools (this could include providing a specific number of scholarships). Align with North Carolina’s Common Core curriculum and Essential Standards For in school programs: A school partnership agreement form is required as part of your application. For out of school programs: Applicants are ineligible to apply if they already receive funding for the proposed arts-focused program from Dogwood Health Trust’s WNC After 3pm initiative.
