The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Foreign Agricultural Service, International Climate Hub, announces this funding opportunity to support the Technical Agricultural Assistance Program by issuing a new award to to design, plan, and implement the FAS Agricultural Export Market Challenge (Challenge) for the 2024-2025 academic year.Launched as a pilot program in 2021, the Challenge is an immersive learning experience targeted to upper-level undergraduates attending a minority-serving educational institution. The Challenge is designed to increase student awareness around the work of FAS, pique student interest in a career in international trade and within the agency, and provide a rich learning experience, while fostering FAS relationships with participating institutions. In the Challenge, students simulate the work that FAS performs every day in global food and agricultural trade. The simulated export case study in the Challenge will help students gain knowledge and skills across the disciplines of economics, diplomacy, scientific analysis, marketing, and trade policy. The students will develop and propose a market entry strategy for anAmerican company that is seeking export sales opportunities for a hypothetical U.S. food or agricultural product in the students recommended overseas target market.

The Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) is offering $57 million in grant funds for in-person before-school, after-school, before-and-after-school, and/or summer programming for children in grades K-12. The City of Dallas Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability’s (OEQS) Urban Agriculture Division, in partnership with Dallas County Health and Human Services, is implementing an Urban Agriculture Infrastructure Support Program (UAISP). The UAISP prioritizes projects focused on power and water infrastructure. Allowable expenditures include project plans/designs, counseling, utility connections (on or off-grid for water, off-grid for energy), contracted labor/installations, greenhouses/hoop houses, versatile high tunnels, cold storage equipment, grow light systems, and bee hives. Projects that directly support the production, aggregation, and/or processing of food through power or water infrastructure will receive preferential consideration during the application evaluation. Expected outcomes include a significant improvement in the infrastructure supporting urban agriculture, leading to increased food production and processing capabilities. Measurable results will likely involve the number of grants awarded, the types of infrastructure implemented (e.g., number of new irrigation systems, cold storage units, greenhouses), and the resulting impact on food security and community health within Dallas. The program's strategic priority is to build resilience in the local food system, with a theory of change that posits that by providing financial and technical support for essential infrastructure, urban growers will be empowered to expand their operations, thereby creating a more accessible, sustainable, and equitable food supply for the community.
