Proposals to the NAWCA Canada program should demonstrate how the activities of partners would encourage sustainable and effective programs for the long-term conservation of wetlands-associated migratory birds. NAWCA funds wetlands conservation projects that include: a) the acquisition of property containing wetlands ecosystems and associated habitats, including water rights, where the acquired land will be administered for its long-term conservation and for the benefit of migratory birds, fish, and other wildlife that depend on it; and/or b) restoration, enhancement, or management of wetlands ecosystems and associated habitats, where these activities will be conducted on lands and waters that will be administered for their long-term conservation and for the benefit of migratory birds, fish, and other wildlife that depend on them. NAWCA Canada proposals contribute to efforts to reduce climate pollution, support climate resilience, support land conservation and biodiversity efforts and leverage partnerships.

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) offers this grant to fund a national membership and accreditation organization supporting Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs). These centers coordinate responses to child abuse victims by providing training, technical assistance, and promoting national standards. This initiative is in line with the Department of Justice’s efforts to enhance community safety and protect civil rights, focusing on building trust between law enforcement and communities. The program targets to uphold law, ensure national safety, and protect civil rights by fostering environments that support victims of child abuse through multidisciplinary collaborations.

The nation relies on emergency management programs and emergency managers to respond to a wide range of threats and hazards. Emergency management programs and emergency managers play an important role in leading state, local, tribal and territorial (SLTT) communities in an effective and unified manner before, during, and after a disaster. Emergency management programs and professionals also play an important role in supporting the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient Nation by coordinating with the whole community to build and sustain the capabilities to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk. The EMBAG program reinforces the FEMA mission of advancing all-hazards preparedness, consistent with the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act of 2006 (PKEMRA) and Presidential Policy Directive 8 (PPD-8), National Preparedness. EMBAG funds the maintenance, validation, and revision of voluntary national-level standards and peer-review assessment processes for SLTT emergency management programs and professionals; peer assessment against these standards for SLTT emergency management program accreditation and professional certification; and outreach and training to increase awareness of national standards and understanding of functions of effective programs and professionals. Over FY 2018-2020, the EMBAG helped 22 SLTT emergency management programs achieve accreditation and 60 SLTT emergency managers achieve certification. The 9/11 Commission Report published in 2004 described efforts led by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to come to a consensus regarding a national standard for preparedness for the private sector. As a result of these efforts, ANSI recommended that the 9/11 Commission endorse a voluntary National Preparedness Standard. According to stakeholders noted in the report, the experience of the private sector in the World Trade Center emergency demonstrated the need for these standards. Federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial and whole community partners in the emergency management community worked with each other and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to establish standards for emergency management both before and after 9/11, including for both emergency management programs and emergency managers. PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONThe U.S. Consulate General in Erbil of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to build capacity among social media influencers, journalists, and journalism students in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR) and Kirkuk governorate. Please follow all instructions below.Priority Region: Iraqi Kurdistan Region. Priority will be given to projects which include audiences from outside the three major cities of Erbil, Duhok and Sulaimani. Program Objectives: The rise of AI-generated disinformation poses significant concerns to the ability of the public and media to fairly and accurately report on current events, given the ability of bots to spread information, and deepfakes to make it extraordinarily difficult to tell truth from fiction putting democracy itself at risk. This program will train 15 social media influencers and 100 newly minted journalists (fewer than 5 years of service) or journalism students on how AI is used to produce and disseminate disinformation, how to recognize disinformation, and how to explain this in clear language to their audiences without scare tactics, in a way that empowers audiences rather than demoralizes them. Influencers should, as a result, create at least two pieces of unique content on disinformation for their audiences; journalists and journalism students should write and publish at least two stories on disinformation. Participants and Audiences:This program envisions two separate trainings: one focused on 15 significant social media influencers (minimum numbers of followers to be determined), and one for 100 journalism students or journalists with fewer than 5 years of service.
