The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) invites applicants who received an official request from BJA to apply for funding to offset costs in response to the law enforcement emergency that occurred in Rochester Hills, Michigan on June 15, 2024. OJP is committed to advancing work that promotes civil rights and equity, increases access to justice, supports crime victims and individuals impacted by the justice system, strengthens community safety, protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community. With this solicitation, BJA seeks to provide funding for emergency situations in which state and local resources are inadequate to protect the lives and property of citizens and/or to enforce criminal law. BJA is authorized to distribute funds to help offset the costs of an adequate response to an uncommon situation that requires law enforcement, that is or threatens to become of serious or epidemic proportions, and with respect to which state and local resources are inadequate to protect the lives and property of citizens or to enforce the criminal law. This program furthers the DOJs mission to uphold the rule of law, to keep our country safe, and to protect civil rights.

The FY 24 Invited to Apply- Sex Offender and Registration Notification Act (SORNA) grant is designed to support jurisdictions in implementing the SORNA requirements of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006, which aims to establish a comprehensive, national system for registering and notifying the public about convicted sex offenders, thereby enhancing public safety and reducing sexual violence and exploitation.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) seeks applications for formula funding. With this solicitation, BJA seeks to fund improvements to forensic science and medical examiner/coroner services, including services provided by forensic science laboratories operated by states and units of local government. Under the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program (the Coverdell Program), state administering agencies (SAAs) may apply for both formula and competitive funds. This solicitation is ONLY for SAAs applying for the formula funds. An applicant seeking to apply for Coverdell competitive funds (consistent with 34 U.S.C. 10563(a)(2)) available to eligible states and units of local government would need to apply separately under BJAs FY 2024 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program (Competitive) solicitation.

The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) is the component of the U.S. Department of Justice responsible for advancing the practice of community policing by the nations state, local, territorial, and tribal law enforcement agencies through information and grant resources. The COPS Office is pleased to announce that it is seeking applications for funding for the FY24 CPD Accreditation: Enhancing Existing Law Enforcement Accreditation Entities program. Community Policing Development (CPD) funds are used to develop the capacity of law enforcement to implement community policing strategies by providing guidance on promising practices through the development and testing of innovative strategies; building knowledge about effective practices and outcomes; and supporting new, creative approaches to preventing crime and promoting safe communities. FY24 Enhancing Existing Law Enforcement Accreditation Entities CPD program funds will support existing law enforcement accreditation bodies in their mission to engage law enforcement agencies in the accreditation process.
