High Impact Community Outreach (HICO) was proposed by the UUCSF Board of Trustees and approved by the congregation in late 2019. It is a long-term program to fund projects that can make a difference in our local communities and develop connections between the congregation and grantees. Thank you for your interest in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork’s (UUCSF) High Impact Community Outreach (HICO) program. Each grant cycle is unique as we select different areas of focus highlighting specific needs in our community. We ask that all applicants ensure that their projects align with at least one of those needs. This is the fifth year of the HICO program. Our focus tries to address the changing needs of our East End community. This year we are shifting from concentrating on the basics to addressing unmet demands of several constituencies. We are cognizant of the pressure on social services by a growing population and recognize that some individuals/groups are being left behind. HICO continues to be a resource to help cope with the challenges/hardships our neighbors are encountering. Please see our 2024 priorities below. We look forward to learning about your project! The Land Trust Alliance, with support from Governor Kathy Hochul, the New York State Legislature, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, is pleased to announce a third round of competitive land trust grants through the Forest Conservation Easements for Land Trust Program. This new public-private partnership is funded through the state Environmental Protection Fund and administered by the Alliance, in coordination with the DEC. Up to $1.35 million in funding is available through the 2024 grant round which will be awarded in the fall of 2024. Grant awards are contingent upon the receipt of state funds. The program has a two-step application process which includes a preapplication and a full application. Preapplications are now being accepted and are due by May 10. Full applications are by invitation only. Applicants invited to submit a full application will be notified by June 14. Full applications will be due July 29. Grant Opportunity: Cattaraugus County Microenterprise Assistance Program Grant (New York) This program provides funding for microenterprises with five or fewer employees, owned by individuals meeting low- or moderate-income criteria as defined by HUD. Not-for-profit corporations are not eligible. Both existing and startup micro-businesses can apply, with startups defined as businesses that have filed structure documentation within the last 6 months. Applicants must submit a completed application, business plan, and proof of income and family size. The assisted business activity must result in the creation of employment positions consistent with low- and moderate-income benefit provisions. Proof of job creation and employee income will be required before grant funds are disbursed.

This funding program provides financial support to arts organizations and community groups in New York City that focus on advocacy and movement-building to promote justice, sustainability, and equity, particularly for those led by and serving marginalized communities.

The Town of Walworth, having received funding through the American Rescue Plan (ARPA) of 2021, has an interest in supporting small businesses and non-profit organizations who have been impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic. As the town is supportive of making investments that back long-term growth and opportunity, $100,000 has been allocated to this project, and this application has been made available as a tool for the purpose of assisting COVID-19 impacted small-businesses/ non-profit organizations in their recovery efforts.

This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and tribal governments in New York State for projects that engage the public in meaningful discussions and reflections on current issues through the humanities.

This program provides $5,000 grants to small businesses and non-profits in Oyster Bay with up to 50 employees and annual revenues between $35,000 and $5 million to help them recover from pandemic-related losses.

This funding opportunity is designed to assist small organizations in New York with limited budgets in providing accessible and engaging public humanities programs to underserved communities across the state.

County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Planning Grants in New York aim to support local efforts to sustain the economic viability of the state's agricultural industry and its land base, while also preserving the environment and landscape associated with agriculture. Eligible counties can receive grants of up to $50,000 or 50% of the planning costs (whichever is less) to develop a county agriculture and farmland protection plan. The county must contribute at least 20% in cash (with no more than 80% in in-kind services), and two counties can collaborate on an application. Counties with an established agricultural and farmland protection board that have not had an approved plan in the last ten years are eligible for funding.

The Municipal Agriculture and Farmland Protection Planning Grants in New York aim to support local initiatives that sustain the economic viability of the state's agricultural industry and its supporting land base, while also preserving the environment and landscape values associated with agriculture. These grants are available to municipalities (cities, towns, and villages) for developing local farmland protection plans through zoning, land use, and subdivision regulations. Eligible municipalities can receive grants up to $25,000 or 75% of the cost for plan development, with a required local funding share of at least 20% in cash. Collaboration between two municipalities on an application is permitted. Additionally, any municipality without a previous agricultural and farmland protection plan is eligible for funding.

The Scherman Foundation’s Core Fund for Reproductive Rights and Justice supports organizations working within a comprehensive reproductive justice framework that addresses the impact of race, class, gender, and sexual identity on women’s reproductive health and autonomy. The Foundation prioritizes funding for innovative national and state-based organizations using strategies such as base building, leadership development, public education, policy advocacy, voter engagement, and culture change. General operating support is emphasized for state-based and local organizations, while larger and policy-focused groups may receive project-specific support.

The Scherman Foundation's Core Fund for Strengthening New York Communities focuses on challenging inequities and improving the conditions of New York City communities in need. The grant program supports housing justice, equitable economic development, gender equity, worker rights, immigrant community challenges, sustainable development, and police and carceral system reform. It also provides support for policy reform organizations collaborating with neighborhood-based groups. The Foundation prioritizes general operating support for smaller neighborhood groups and offers project-specific support for larger and policy-focused organizations or collaborative campaigns.

The Scherman Foundation's Core Fund Arts Program in New York City supports a diverse range of professional performing arts organizations and a limited number of visual arts groups. The program prioritizes excellence and innovation, providing general operating support to empower artistic leaders with flexible funding. It aims to enrich the city's spirit, create sustainable communities, impact social wellbeing and cohesion, and serve as an economic engine while attracting emerging and established artists and art lovers from around the world. The program supports small groups dedicated to the work of a single artist, larger producing entities, museums, and organizations that sustain the creative life.

This funding is designed to assist Rockland County in providing essential services and support to individuals and families facing homelessness or housing instability, helping them secure permanent housing and regain stability.

This grant provides funding to community groups in Syracuse for projects that enhance local parks and recreational areas through volunteer-led initiatives.

Grant Opportunity: New York Newspapers Foundation The New York Newspapers Foundation is offering financial support to organizations that align with its mission of promoting freedom of speech and the press, as well as education and scientific research related to these fields. The foundation was established in 1977 by the New York State Publishers Association and is a public organization with 501(c)(3) status. The NYFIRST medical school grant program aims to support the recruitment or retention of exceptional life science researchers at New York State medical schools.
