The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, Workforce Development (LEO-WD) is offering a grant opportunity called the Martin Luther King, Jr. - César Chávez - Rosa Parks (KCP) Initiative, Select Student Support Services (4S) funding. The 4S program is one of seven core programs under KCP and aims to develop retention programs for academically or economically disadvantaged legal residents of Michigan enrolled at 4-year public and independent educational institutions in the state. The goal of the program is to increase graduation rates by providing seed money that will stimulate institutional change and improve graduation rates of targeted students. Federally funded program to enhance competitiveness of specialty crops such as fruits, vegetables, grapes, horticultural, etc. The purpose of the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP) is to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops. Specialty crops are defined as “fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, horticulture, and nursery crops (including floriculture).” Projects must show a benefit to the specialty crop industry. This program is not designed for start-ups or projects that only benefit one operation. Universities, institutions, cooperatives, producers, industry, or community-based organizations may submit a proposal for funding. A review committee will select projects to be included in Tennessee’s state plan. This is a competitive program. Projects must directly impact multiple Tennessee producers. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture seeks to identify and support projects that are forward thinking with a positive, long-lasting impact on Tennessee Agriculture.

The Louisiana Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) is a grant opportunity supported by the National Science Foundation and the Louisiana Board of Regents. The program aims to enhance Louisiana's research and development competitiveness, build partnerships among universities, national laboratories, research centers, and the private sector, and recruit students into science and engineering fields. Eligible applicants include tenured and tenure-track S&E faculty members in any Louisiana public institution of higher education or in any Louisiana higher education institution that is a member of the Louisiana Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (LAICU). Post-doctoral researchers and graduate students can participate but must be sponsored by a faculty member who will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI). Additional Information: Grants are decided through a rigorous panel process involving peers and cultural leaders from across the country. Panelists evaluate applications based on need, relevance to the community, diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. Funding recommendations are made by panelists after reviewing applications. Partial funding is common, so it is recommended to ask for the needed amount along with an accurate budget. Changes or updates to funded projects should be communicated to RISCA staff via email.
