The U.S. Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner to assist in developing datasets for predictive relationships between florescence of dissolved organic matter (FDOM) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in freshwater types of SE Alaska. Surface water from large rivers is currently being collected and characterized, but from a limited variety of water types. Assistance in developing continuous monitoring surrogates and documenting the relationship between surrogates and measured water quality parameters, such as FDOM and dissolved carbon and organic matter, is sought. These studies will augment and inform current USGS efforts at characterizing dissolved carbon in glacially dominated large rivers and help evaluate USGS standard methods to new water types. It will also foster a collective understanding of the DOC concentrations and characteristics of SE Alaska streams and inform their sensitivity to pollutants.

The Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Culture and Arts Development Grant Program for FY 2024/2025 is a $1.5 million fund managed by the National Park Service, aimed at supporting nonprofit organizations that serve Native Hawaiian or Alaska Native populations in preserving and advancing their culture and arts through various forms such as language, visual and performing arts, and history.

The Harbor Facility Grant Program provides financial assistance in the form of a 50/50 matching grant to municipally or regional housing authority owned small boat harbor facilities in the State of Alaska. This grant program is funded on an annual basis at the discretion of the Alaska Legislature and consists of two tiers, Tier I and II.   The first tier has priority and consists of “Major Maintenance and Repair” of a harbor facility that was previously owned by the state and now is municipally or regional housing authority owned. A harbor facility may only receive one Tier I grant regardless if it is for all or only a portion of that harbor facility. The boundaries of a Tier I harbor facility will be based on the Department’s 1995 Alaska Harbor Directory or as determined by the Department. Once a Tier I eligible harbor facility receives a Tier I grant, the status of that harbor facility changes from Tier I to Tier II henceforth. After all eligible Tier I projects have been selected, the Department will consider Tier II projects.  The second tier consists of all other municipally or regional housing authority owned harbor facilities, including construction of a new harbor facility. Harbor facilities which have already received a Tier I grant can only compete for Tier II grants. Tier II grants may comprise “New Construction, Expansion, or Major Maintenance and Repair” of a harbor facility. A harbor facility is eligible for multiple Tier II grants. Applications for religious indoctrination or other religious activities, endowment building, deficit financing, fundraising, lobbying, electioneering, or activities of political nature will not be considered, nor will proposals for ads, sponsorships, or special events (e.g., fundraisers), and any proposals which discriminate as to race, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, age, disability, creed, or ethnicity. Exceptions: In selected cases, projects undertaken by organizations that normally fall outside the above guidelines may be able to receive funding. Examples include faith-based organizations whose proposal impacts the broader community, and units of government whose proposal extends beyond the traditional governmental functions that impact the broader community. Fiscal Sponsorship: Ineligible organizations may be able to receive funding for projects if they seek support from a qualified organization that is willing to provide fiscal sponsorship. The Violence Against Women Act of 2013 first authorized this program as an amendment to the Indian Civil Rights Act of 1968, and it was further amended by the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA 2022) to include Alaska Tribes (codified as amended at 25 U.S.C. 1304(h)(2)). The OVW Special Tribal Criminal Jurisdiction Grant Program (Tribal Jurisdiction Program) (Assistance Listing # 16.025) supports tribes in their efforts to exercise special Tribal criminal jurisdiction (STCJ) over non-Indians who commit covered crimes within the Tribes jurisdictional boundaries and provides technical assistance for planning and implementing changes in their criminal justice systems necessary to exercise the jurisdiction. Covered crimes are: assault of Tribal justice personnel; child violence; dating violence; domestic violence; obstruction of justice; sexual violence; sex trafficking; stalking; and violation of a protection order. The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support research that includes education, outreach, and clinical access to improve the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers among American Indians and Alaska Natives, particularly those living in rural communities.

The purpose of this program is to support communities to directly increase the diagnoses, treatment, and prevention of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and syphilis. Successful applicants will work toward a reduction of new HIV infections and relevant co-morbidities, specifically syphilis and HCV infections; improve HIV/HCV/syphilis-related health outcomes; and reduce HIV/HCV/syphilis-related health disparities among American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people. In four separate but related parts, this initiative aims to implement effective and innovative strategies, interventions, approaches, and services to reduce new HIV/HCV/syphilis infections among AI/AN communities in the U.S. This initiatives overarching goals are to: (1) Reduce new HIV, HCV, and syphilis infections to less than 3,000 per year by 2030; and (2) achieve a 90 percent reduction in new HCV infections and a 65 percent reduction in mortality, compared to a 2015 baseline.

The IIJA/IRA Bureau of Land Management Alaska Good Neighbor Authority grant aims to fund partnerships with states, counties, and tribes for the planning and implementation of restoration projects on forest, rangeland, and watershed areas, with a focus on treating diseased trees, reducing hazardous fuels, and improving overall ecosystem health, including wildlife habitats.

The purpose of this program is to increase representation of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people in science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) fields by increasing visibility and awareness of lesser-known STEM applied public health occupational and student opportunities as well as the benefits of these opportunities. Sanitation and engineering fields are often overlooked as applied public health STEM fields even though their work is the foundation of public health through providing and maintaining sanitary facilities and environments for homes and health care facilities. For example, the primary STEM occupational opportunities within the OEHE include civil and environmental (sanitation) engineering, general (health facility) engineering, and environmental health (sanitarian) professions (herein after collectively referred to as sanitation and engineering).The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is identified as a single (sole) source for this cooperative agreement. The AISES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity and leader in STEM opportunity in Indian Country with both a membership base and Board of Directors that is 100 percent American Indian. The emphasis of the grant program is to encourage the transformation of building facades through improvements to one or more of the elements listed above.  Greater weight is awarded to projects that incorporate multiple elements.  The grant program is not intended to provide financial assistance for routine upkeep and maintenance (e.g., painting) or to satisfy required updates (e.g., signage resulting from change in ownership or business type, franchise requirements to change paint scheme, etc.).
